Juri Ishmaak
EDFM // Engineering / Engineers
A Grade 5 mine, sensor, and explosive-weapon Engineer based at Pater's Memorial in Giryak, reached through Felicity Farseer.
Juri Ishmaak is a ship Engineer based at Pater's Memorial in the Giryak system. He is reached through Felicity Farseer and has broad Engineering coverage spanning mines, Sensors, Detailed Surface Scanners, utility scanners, missiles, and — in Live — several Operations-era mining and explosive-weapon modifications.[1]
His conventional maximum-grade specialties include Grade 5 Mine Launcher, Sensors, and Detailed Surface Scanner Engineering. In Live, Juri also provides several specialised Operations-era blueprints through Grade 5, including Engineering for Mining Lasers, Abrasion Blasters, Enzyme Missile Racks, and specialised Seeker Missile Racks.[1]
Field note
Juri's current Engineering coverage is much broader than his older reputation as primarily a mine and utility Engineer. Several of his newer Grade 5 capabilities are specific to the Live Operations-era Engineering system and compatible Merc modules.
Location
- System: Giryak
- Facility: Pater's Memorial
- Body: Giryak 2 a
- Engineer type: Ship Engineer
- Referral required: Felicity Farseer
- System permit required: No
Pater's Memorial is a surface Engineer base on Giryak 2 a.[2]
How to Discover Juri Ishmaak
Juri Ishmaak is discovered through Felicity Farseer.
Reach Grade 3 access and progress at least one-third of the way toward Grade 4 with Felicity to receive her referral to Juri.[3]
Juri is the only direct Engineer referral from Felicity.
Field note
Receiving Felicity's referral makes Juri known to you. His separate Federal combat-bond requirement must still be completed before his workshop can be unlocked.
How to Receive an Invitation
Current Engineer data requires you to claim more than 50 Federal combat bonds.[1]
Combat bonds are earned by participating in Combat Zones and fighting for one of the factions involved in the conflict.
For Juri, current Engineer data specifically identifies Federal combat bonds. When working toward the requirement, fight on behalf of an appropriate Federation-aligned side rather than assuming that every combat bond will necessarily satisfy the stricter current wording.
Important
The meeting requirement is based on the number of qualifying combat bonds, while Juri's final unlock is based on their credit value. These are separate requirements.
Current sources differ slightly in how they phrase the count: some list 50 combat bonds, while current Inara data states more than 50.[1][3]
Tip
For practical purposes, earn at least 51 qualifying Federal combat bonds rather than stopping exactly at 50. This satisfies the stricter wording of the current Engineer listing.
See Combat Bonds and Combat Zones for how to choose a side, identify valid targets, earn bonds, and return safely.
How to Unlock Juri Ishmaak
Unlock requirements summary:
- Reach Grade 3 access and at least one-third progress toward Grade 4 with Felicity Farseer.
- Provide the required value of Federal combat bonds to Juri.
Important
Juri is one of the unusual Engineer unlocks where the required credit value can differ between Commanders. EDFM therefore does not treat either 100,000 CR or 1,000,000 CR as the universal requirement.
Tip
If you want to avoid returning to a Combat Zone after reaching Pater's Memorial, accumulate at least 1,000,000 CR worth of Federal combat bonds before making the trip. If your unlock requires the lower amount, the additional bonds can be retained or redeemed afterward.
For the complete step-by-step process, see Unlocking Juri Ishmaak.
Increasing Engineer Reputation
Reputation with Juri Ishmaak can be increased by:
- crafting Engineering modifications at Pater's Memorial; or
- handing in bounty vouchers or combat bonds at Pater's Memorial.[1]
Higher Engineer reputation gives access to the higher grades Juri supports for each blueprint.
Reaching Grade 3 access and progressing at least one-third of the way toward Grade 4 allows Juri to provide referrals to The Sarge and Colonel Bris Dekker.[3][4][5]
See Engineer Reputation for how ship Engineer reputation, grade access, blueprint progression, referrals, and alternative reputation methods work.
Tip
If you have combat bonds left after Juri's unlock, handing them in at Pater's Memorial can also contribute toward increasing your Engineer reputation with him.
Engineer Unlock Chain
Juri Ishmaak belongs to the Felicity Farseer branch of the ship Engineer network.
The route to Juri is:
Felicity Farseer └── Juri Ishmaak
After reaching Grade 3 access and progressing at least one-third of the way toward Grade 4 with Juri, he provides referrals to:
The complete branch is:
Felicity Farseer
└── Juri Ishmaak
├── Colonel Bris Dekker
└── The Sarge
Current Engineer data independently lists both Colonel Bris Dekker and The Sarge as being discovered through Juri Ishmaak.[5][4]
Neither currently leads to another Engineer in the active ship Engineer referral network.
Field note
A referral from Juri does not automatically unlock either Engineer. Colonel Bris Dekker and The Sarge have separate military, permit, material, and/or combat-bond requirements of their own.
See Engineer Unlock Guide for the complete referral network.

Juri's conventional maximum-grade specialties are therefore Detailed Surface Scanners, Mine Launchers, and Sensors.
His Operations-era Engineering significantly expands that Grade 5 coverage in Live.
Operations-era Engineering
The Operations update introduced several blueprints now available through Juri Ishmaak.[6]
Juri is particularly notable because he provides Grade 5 access to a number of these specialised modifications.
These blueprints are available only in Live.
Most require a compatible Merc module and use Merc Coin as part of the Engineering cost.
Far-reaching Abrasion Blaster
Far-reaching increases Abrasion Blaster range and projectile speed while reducing power draw, distributor draw, and thermal load, at the cost of reduced integrity.[7]
Juri can apply Far-reaching through Grade 5.
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint only through Grade 3.
Important
Far-reaching can only be applied to compatible Merc Abrasion Blasters.
Long Range Mining Laser
Long Range greatly increases Mining Laser range while changing its power, distributor, thermal, integrity, and damage characteristics.[8]
Juri can apply Long Range through Grade 5.
At Grade 5, the current blueprint provides a very large increase in maximum range while reducing power and distributor draw, with reduced integrity and a small damage penalty.[8]
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint through Grade 3.
Important
Long Range Mining Laser Engineering can only be applied to compatible Merc Mining Lasers.
High-yield Enzyme Missile Rack
High-yield increases Enzyme Missile Rack ammunition and magazine capacity while increasing module mass and power draw.[9]
Juri can apply High-yield through Grade 5.
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint through Grade 3.
Important
High-yield can only be applied to compatible Merc Enzyme Missile Racks.
Long Range Detailed Surface Scanner
Long Range Detailed increases Detailed Surface Scanner probe radius at the cost of increased module mass and power draw.[10]
Juri can apply Long Range Detailed through Grade 5.
Important
Long Range Detailed can only be applied to compatible Merc Detailed Surface Scanners.
Drag Seeker Missile Rack
Drag increases ammunition capacity, magazine capacity, and firing rate at the cost of increased mass, power draw, and distributor draw.[11]
Juri can apply Drag through Grade 5.
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint through Grade 3.
Important
Drag can only be applied to compatible Merc Seeker Missile Racks.
Field note
The Drag blueprint is separate from the Drag Munitions Experimental Effect. The two names refer to different parts of the Engineering system.
Lightweight Thermal Seeker Missile Rack
Lightweight Thermal increases ammunition capacity, magazine capacity, and firing rate while reducing mass, power draw, and distributor draw. The tradeoff is reduced module integrity.[12]
Juri can apply Lightweight Thermal through Grade 5.
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint through Grade 3.
Important
Lightweight Thermal can only be applied to compatible Merc Seeker Missile Racks.
Lockdown Seeker Missile Rack
Lockdown increases ammunition, magazine capacity, integrity, and armour penetration while reducing thermal load. Its tradeoffs include increased mass and power draw and reduced firing rate and damage.[13]
Juri can apply Lockdown through Grade 5.
Liz Ryder provides the same blueprint through Grade 3.
Important
Lockdown can only be applied to compatible Merc Seeker Missile Racks.
Experimental Effects
Experimental Effects are separate from the main Engineering blueprint.
Among Juri's conventional specialties, Mine Launchers, Missile Racks, Seeker Missile Racks, and Torpedo Pylons support Experimental Effects.
Sensors, Detailed Surface Scanners, Frame Shift Wake Scanners, Kill Warrant Scanners, and Manifest Scanners do not currently use ordinary Experimental Effects.
The current Far-reaching Abrasion Blaster, Long Range Mining Laser, and High-yield Enzyme Missile Rack blueprints also do not have Experimental Effects.[7][8][9]
Mine Launcher
Available Mine Launcher Experimental Effects include:[14]
- Double Braced
- Emissive Munitions
- Flow Control
- Ion Disruption
- Overload Munitions
- Oversized
- Radiant Canister
- Reverberating Cascade
- Shift-lock Canister
- Stripped Down
Missile Rack
Available Missile Rack Experimental Effects include:[15]
- Double Braced
- Emissive Munitions
- Flow Control
- FSD Interrupt
- Multi-servos
- Overload Munitions
- Oversized
- Penetrator Munitions
- Stripped Down
- Thermal Cascade
Seeker Missile Rack
Available Seeker Missile Rack Experimental Effects include:[11]
- Double Braced
- Drag Munitions
- Emissive Munitions
- Flow Control
- Multi-servos
- Overload Munitions
- Oversized
- Stripped Down
- Thermal Cascade
These Experimental Effects are also listed for the Live-only Drag, Lightweight Thermal, and Lockdown Seeker Missile blueprints.[11][12][13]
Torpedo Pylon
Available Torpedo Pylon Experimental Effects include:
- Double Braced
- Flow Control
- Mass Lock Munition
- Oversized
- Penetrator Payload
- Reverberating Cascade
- Stripped Down
See Experimental Effects for the effects, tradeoffs, and material costs of each option.
Important
Experimental Effects cannot be applied through ordinary Remote Engineering. A compatible weapon must be taken to an Engineer who works on that module type.
Recommended Engineering
Juri's unusually broad coverage means his most useful Engineering depends strongly on the ship and activity.
Sensors
Juri provides all three conventional Sensor blueprints through Grade 5.
Lightweight Sensors is broadly useful on ships where reducing mass matters more than maximizing Sensor integrity or passive detection angle.
Tip
Common mass-saving choice: Lightweight Sensors
Grade 5 Lightweight Sensors can remove a substantial amount of mass from large Sensor modules, making the blueprint particularly useful on exploration ships and other mass-sensitive builds.
Long Range Sensors and Wide Angle Sensors remain useful when improved detection capability is more important than mass.
Mine Launchers
Juri provides all conventional Mine Launcher blueprints through Grade 5.
Mine Launchers are specialized weapons, and their Experimental Effects often define their purpose more strongly than the base blueprint.
For example:
- Reverberating Cascade can be used for specialised attacks against shield generators;
- Ion Disruption interferes with target thrusters;
- Shift-lock Canister affects Frame Shift Drive operation; and
- Overload Munitions converts part of the weapon's explosive damage to thermal damage.
These are specialised applications rather than a universal weapon recommendation.
Operations-era mining equipment
In Live, Juri is the maximum-grade Engineer for both:
These modifications can be useful on specialised mining builds using compatible Merc equipment.
They should not be treated as mandatory upgrades for ordinary mining ships; standard Mining Lasers and Abrasion Blasters continue to function without Operations Engineering.
Blueprint Pinning
After earning sufficient reputation with Juri, one of his blueprints can be pinned for use through Remote Engineering.
Tip
EDFM recommendation: Lightweight Sensors is a strong general-purpose blueprint to consider pinning at Juri.
Juri provides Lightweight Sensors through Grade 5, and the modification is useful across exploration, racing, combat, and other builds where Sensor mass can be reduced without needing increased detection range.
If Lightweight Sensors is already pinned through another Grade 5 Sensor Engineer, Juri's Grade 5 Mine Launcher, Detailed Surface Scanner, or Live-only Operations-era Engineering may provide a more useful alternative depending on your fleet.
Juri has an unusually large number of potential Grade 5 pins, so there is no single correct choice for every Commander.
Important
A pinned blueprint does not allow you to apply Experimental Effects remotely. Weapon Experimental Effects still require visiting an appropriate Engineer workshop.
What Juri Cannot Fully Engineer
Juri provides several Grade 5 specialties, but some of his conventional weapons and scanners stop at Grade 3.
His current maximum grades include:
- Detailed Surface Scanner: Grade 5
- Mine Launcher: Grade 5
- Sensors: Grade 5
- Abrasion Blaster — Far-reaching: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Enzyme Missile Rack — High-yield: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Mining Laser — Long Range: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Seeker Missile Rack — Drag: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Seeker Missile Rack — Lightweight Thermal: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Seeker Missile Rack — Lockdown: Grade 5 (Live only)
- Frame Shift Wake Scanner: Grade 3
- Kill Warrant Scanner: Grade 3
- Manifest Scanner: Grade 3
- Missile Rack: Grade 3
- Conventional Seeker Missile Rack blueprints: Grade 3
- Torpedo Pylon: Grade 3[1]
For higher-grade conventional missile Engineering:
- Liz Ryder provides Grade 5 Missile Rack, Seeker Missile Rack, and Torpedo Pylon Engineering.
- Petra Olmanova provides Grade 5 Missile Rack, Seeker Missile Rack, and Torpedo Pylon Engineering in Colonia.[16]
For higher-grade utility scanners:
- Tiana Fortune provides Grade 5 Frame Shift Wake Scanner, Kill Warrant Scanner, and Manifest Scanner Engineering.
Juri is therefore strongest as a Grade 5 Sensor, Detailed Surface Scanner, Mine Launcher, and Live Operations-era Engineer rather than as a maximum-grade source for every conventional explosive weapon he supports.
What Next?
Progressing Juri's reputation opens two additional Engineer paths.
Both lead into Federal requirements, so this is a useful point to begin working on Federal Navy Rank and Federation reputation if you have not already done so.
