A high-level roadmap showing how Engineers connect to one another, which Engineers can be approached independently, and which referrals lead deeper into each Engineering network.

This page is a roadmap of the Engineer referral network. It shows which Engineers can be approached independently and which Engineers are discovered through another Engineer.

For the exact discovery, meeting, invitation, permit, donation, rank, reputation, activity, commodity, or material requirements for an Engineer, follow the link to that Engineer's article.

Field note

An Engineer appearing beneath another Engineer does not mean that referral is the only requirement. Many referred Engineers also have a separate meeting or unlock requirement that must be completed before their workshop becomes available.

How Engineer referrals work

Some Engineers can be discovered without first progressing with another Engineer. These are the starting Engineers for their respective referral branches.

Other Engineers are discovered through referrals.

For ship Engineers, current Engineer data records referrals as being granted after sufficient reputation has been earned with the previous Engineer, generally during progression between Grade 3 and Grade 4 access.

A referral only causes the next Engineer to become known. It does not automatically unlock that Engineer's workshop.

Odyssey Engineers use a similar referral system, but progression to the next Engineer normally requires completion of a specific referral task rather than ship-Engineer reputation progression.

Important

Ship Engineering and Odyssey Engineering are separate systems.

Ship Engineers modify ship modules. Odyssey Engineers modify suits and handheld weapons. Progress through one network does not replace progression through the other.

Ship Engineer Unlock Paths

There are five independent starting Engineers in the ship Engineering network:

• Felicity Farseer (unlock procedure)
• Elvira Martuuk (unlock procedure)
• Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn (unlock procedure)
• The Dweller (unlock procedure)
• Liz Ryder (unlock procedure)

Each begins a separate referral branch.

Felicity Farseer branch

• Felicity Farseer — starting Engineer
  • Juri Ishmaak (unlock procedure)
    • Colonel Bris Dekker (unlock procedure)
    • The Sarge (unlock procedure)

Felicity Farseer is an independent starting Engineer. She does not require Elvira Martuuk, and Elvira does not require Felicity. They belong to separate starting branches.

After sufficient reputation has been earned with Felicity, she refers the Commander to Juri Ishmaak.

Juri Ishmaak can subsequently provide referrals to both:

• Colonel Bris Dekker; and
• The Sarge.

Elvira Martuuk branch

• Elvira Martuuk — starting Engineer
  • Zacariah Nemo (unlock procedure)
  • Marco Qwent (unlock procedure)
    • Chloe Sedesi (unlock procedure)
    • Lori Jameson (unlock procedure)
    • Professor Palin (unlock procedure)
  • Mel Brandon (unlock procedure) — Colonia

Elvira Martuuk is an independent starting Engineer and one of the largest referral hubs in the ship Engineering network.

After sufficient reputation has been earned with Elvira, she can provide referrals to:

• Zacariah Nemo;
• Marco Qwent; and
• Mel Brandon in the Colonia region.

Marco Qwent then leads to three additional Engineers:

• Chloe Sedesi;
• Lori Jameson; and
• Professor Palin.

Field note

A referral to a Colonia Engineer does not bypass that Engineer's own requirements. The Commander must still travel to the Colonia region and satisfy the Engineer's meeting and unlock conditions.

Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn branch

• Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn — starting Engineer
  • Selene Jean (unlock procedure)
    • Bill Turner (unlock procedure)
    • Didi Vatermann (unlock procedure)
  • Petra Olmanova (unlock procedure) — Colonia

Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn is an independent starting Engineer.

After sufficient reputation has been earned with Tod, he can provide referrals to:

• Selene Jean; and
• Petra Olmanova in the Colonia region.

Selene Jean subsequently provides referrals to:

• Bill Turner; and
• Didi Vatermann.

The Dweller branch

• The Dweller — starting Engineer
  • Lei Cheung (unlock procedure)
    • Ram Tah (unlock procedure)
  • Marsha Hicks (unlock procedure) — Colonia

The Dweller is an independent starting Engineer.

After sufficient reputation has been earned with The Dweller, he can provide referrals to:

• Lei Cheung; and
• Marsha Hicks in the Colonia region.

Lei Cheung subsequently provides the referral to Ram Tah.

Liz Ryder branch

• Liz Ryder — starting Engineer
  • Hera Tani (unlock procedure)
    • Broo Tarquin
    • Tiana Fortune (unlock procedure)
  • Etienne Dorn (unlock procedure) — Colonia

Liz Ryder is an independent starting Engineer.

After sufficient reputation has been earned with Liz, she can provide referrals to:

• Hera Tani; and
• Etienne Dorn in the Colonia region.

Hera Tani subsequently provides referrals to:

• Broo Tarquin; and
• Tiana Fortune.

Need the actual unlock requirements?

The tree above shows who introduces whom. A referral does not necessarily mean the referred Engineer can immediately be used.

Follow the Engineer's name to their individual article for their complete discovery, meeting, and unlock procedure, including any ranks, permits, reputation requirements, commodities, materials, travel milestones, or other prerequisites.

Odyssey Engineer Unlock Paths

Odyssey Engineering has its own referral network for Suits and Handheld Weapons. It is separate from the ship Engineer network.

There are three independent starting branches in the core inhabited region and three independent starting Engineers in Colonia.

Hero Ferrari branch

• Hero Ferrari (unlock procedure) — starting Engineer
  • Wellington Beck (unlock procedure)
    • Uma Laszlo (unlock procedure)

Hero Ferrari is available without a prerequisite Engineer.

After Hero has been unlocked and her referral task has been completed, she introduces Wellington Beck.

After Wellington Beck has been unlocked and his own referral task has been completed, he introduces Uma Laszlo.

The branch is therefore:

Jude Navarro branch

• Jude Navarro (unlock procedure) — starting Engineer
  • Terra Velasquez (unlock procedure)
    • Oden Geiger (unlock procedure)

Jude Navarro is available without a prerequisite Engineer.

After Jude has been unlocked and his referral task has been completed, he introduces Terra Velasquez.

After Terra Velasquez has been unlocked and her referral task has been completed, she introduces Oden Geiger.

The branch is therefore:

Domino Green branch

• Domino Green (unlock procedure) — starting Engineer
  • Kit Fowler (unlock procedure)
    • Yarden Bond (unlock procedure)

Domino Green is available without a prerequisite Engineer.

After Domino has been unlocked and her referral task has been completed, she introduces Kit Fowler.

After Kit Fowler has been unlocked and his referral task has been completed, he introduces Yarden Bond.

Colonia Odyssey Engineers

The Colonia Odyssey network does not use a normal linear referral chain.

Three Engineers can be approached independently:

• Baltanos (unlock procedure)
• Eleanor Bresa (unlock procedure)
• Rosa Dayette (unlock procedure)

Each has a separate referral task associated with Yi Shen (unlock procedure).

Yi Shen requires the referral tasks from all three Engineers to be completed before access is granted.

The relationship is therefore:

Yi Shen should not be treated as the direct successor of any one of those Engineers. All three contribute to his discovery and unlock path.

Ship Engineering

The five ship Engineers that do not require another Engineer's referral are:

• Felicity Farseer

Odyssey Engineering — Core region

The three core-region Odyssey Engineers that do not require another Engineer's referral are:

• Hero Ferrari
• Jude Navarro
• Domino Green

Odyssey Engineering — Colonia

The three Colonia Odyssey Engineers that begin the route to Yi Shen independently are:

• Baltanos
• Eleanor Bresa
• Rosa Dayette

Reading the roadmap

This page describes referral relationships only.

A starting Engineer can still have requirements that must be met before their workshop becomes available.

Likewise, being referred to an Engineer does not mean that Engineer is immediately unlocked. Depending on the Engineer, the Commander may still need to complete requirements involving:

• Pilots Federation rank;
• Federal or Imperial Navy rank;
• superpower or minor-faction reputation;
• a system permit;
• travel distance;
• combat, trading, mining, or exploration activity;
• missions or settlement activity;
• commodity deliveries;
• Engineering materials or data;
• bounty vouchers or combat bonds; or
• another Engineer-specific task.

Those requirements are documented on the individual Engineer pages rather than duplicated here.

Notes

• Starting Engineer means that no prerequisite Engineer referral is required. It does not mean the Engineer has no access or unlock requirements.
• A referral makes another Engineer available to pursue; it does not automatically grant workshop access.
• Ship Engineer referrals depend on reputation progression with the preceding Engineer.
• Odyssey referrals generally use explicit referral tasks.
• Colonia ship Engineers are reached through the normal ship referral network but are physically located in the Colonia region.
• Yi Shen requires completion of the referral tasks associated with Baltanos, Eleanor Bresa, and Rosa Dayette.
• Ship Engineering and Odyssey Engineering are independent progression systems.
• Exact Engineer requirements are maintained on the individual Engineer pages so that this roadmap can remain focused on the referral network.
