A Standard-grade Encoded engineering material, and Ram Tah's unlock requirement.
Classified Scan Databanks are an Encoded Engineering material of Standard grade/rarity.[1]
Important
Unlike a commodity such as Meta-Alloys or Gold, Classified Scan Databanks are not cargo. They live in your ship's separate Materials inventory (accessed from the right-hand panel, not the cargo hold) and do not occupy cargo space.
Why it matters for Engineering
Ram Tah requires 50 units of Classified Scan Databanks to unlock his Engineering workshop at Phoenix Base in Meene.
Beyond that unlock requirement, this material is also a routine blueprint ingredient in its own right: it is used across several current Engineering blueprints, including Power Distributor grade-5 modifications and Sensors/Frame Shift Wake Scanner/Kill Warrant Scanner/Manifest Scanner and Frame Shift Drive Interdictor blueprints.[1] A Commander engineering those modules is likely to need more beyond the initial 50-unit delivery.
Acquisition
Classified Scan Databanks are gathered, not bought:
- Scanning. They are commonly obtained by scanning transport/haulage vessels' cargo, and from data points found at surface Points of Interest.[1]
- Material trading. An Encoded Material Trader (found under Station Services → Contacts at stations that offer one) can convert other Encoded materials of a compatible tier into Classified Scan Databanks.[1]
Because it's a Standard-grade material, small amounts turn up fairly often during routine scanning; there is no fixed "buy here" station the way there is for a commodity.
