Charge strength and fissure strength determine whether the detonation is safe, weak, or excessive.

The launcher is only one part of Core Mining. A complete core-mining fit also needs search support, collection support, a refinery, cargo space, and usually an Abrasion Blaster to remove deposits after the detonation.
