Jude Navarro is an Odyssey Engineer based at Marshall's Drift in the Aurai system. He is an independent starting Engineer and does not require a referral from another Engineer.[1]

Jude specialises in combat-oriented suit and handheld-weapon modifications. He provides Added Melee Damage, Damage Resistance, Extra Ammo Capacity, Magazine Size, and Reload Speed.[1]

Field note

Jude is one of three independent starting Odyssey Engineers in the Bubble, alongside Hero Ferrari and Domino Green. All three are listed as common knowledge and can be pursued without first unlocking another Odyssey Engineer.[2]

Odyssey Engineering is separate from ship Engineering. Suits and handheld weapons have equipment grades and modification slots rather than the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression used by ship Engineers.

Location

  • System: Aurai
  • Settlement: Marshall's Drift
  • Body: Aurai 1 a
  • Engineer type: Odyssey Engineer
  • Prerequisite Engineer: None
  • System permit required: No

Marshall's Drift is a surface Engineer base on Aurai 1 a, approximately 1,600 Ls from the system arrival point.[3]

How to Discover Jude Navarro

Jude Navarro is common knowledge and does not require a referral from another Engineer.[1]

He can therefore be pursued independently of the other Odyssey Engineer branches.

The three independent starting branches in the Bubble are:

Hero Ferrari
└── Wellington Beck
    └── Uma Laszlo

Jude Navarro
└── Terra Velasquez
    └── Oden Geiger

Domino Green
└── Kit Fowler
    └── Yarden Bond

Field note

The starting Engineers do not need to be completed in any particular order. Progress with Hero Ferrari, Jude Navarro, and Domino Green can be worked on independently.

How to Receive an Invitation

There is no separate invitation requirement for Jude Navarro.

His access requirement is simply to complete 10 Restore or Reactivation missions.[1]

How to Unlock Jude Navarro

Complete 10 Restore or Reactivation missions.[1]

A typical progression is:

  1. Visit an inhabited station or settlement offering Odyssey missions.
  2. Look for missions specifically requiring a settlement to be restored or reactivated.
  3. Accept the mission.
  4. Travel to the designated settlement.
  5. Restore the settlement's power and complete any other mission objectives.
  6. Return and complete the mission.
  7. Repeat until 10 qualifying missions have been completed.
  8. Travel to Marshall's Drift on Aurai 1 a.
  9. Access Jude Navarro's Engineer workshop.

Important

The requirement is for 10 completed Restore or Reactivation missions. Simply turning on the power at an unrelated abandoned settlement is not the documented Engineer requirement.

Restore and Reactivation missions normally involve bringing an offline settlement back into operation, including restoring power to its reactor.

See Restore Missions and Settlement Reactivation for the full mission workflow.

Tip

These missions can also provide opportunities to search powered-down settlements for Odyssey Engineering materials, making Jude's unlock a useful time to begin building a general stockpile of Goods, Assets, and Data.

Field note

Current Engineer data notes that station services may not become available immediately after Jude is unlocked. If his expected services do not appear after completing the tenth qualifying mission, logging out and back in may make them available.[1]

Odyssey Engineering at Jude Navarro

Odyssey Engineering works differently from ship Engineering.

Suits and handheld weapons have an equipment grade. Higher equipment grades provide additional modification slots:

Equipment grade Modification slots
Grade 1 0
Grade 2 1
Grade 3 2
Grade 4 3
Grade 5 4

Jude installs individual modifications into those available slots.

His modifications do not progress through Grade 1–5 Engineer reputation.

Important

A Grade 5 Dominator Suit does not receive a "Grade 5 Damage Resistance" modification. Grade 5 describes the suit itself and gives it four modification slots; Damage Resistance occupies one of those slots as a single permanent modification.

See Odyssey Engineering for equipment grades, upgrading, modification slots, Engineering materials, and Pioneer Supplies.

Available Engineering

Jude currently provides five Odyssey modifications.[1]

Modification Equipment Primary effect
Added Melee Damage Suit Greatly increases damage from fists and weapon melee attacks
Damage Resistance Suit Reduces kinetic, thermal, plasma, and explosive damage taken
Extra Ammo Capacity Suit Increases ammunition carrying capacity by 50%
Magazine Size Handheld weapon Increases the weapon's magazine capacity
Reload Speed Handheld weapon Reduces weapon reload time

Added Melee Damage

Added Melee Damage substantially increases damage dealt by both unarmed attacks and melee strikes performed with a handheld weapon.[1]

The current modifiers are:

  • +150% weapon melee damage multiplier
  • +150% fists melee damage multiplier[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Added Melee Damage include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Added Melee Damage is a specialised modification rather than a general-purpose suit upgrade.

It can be useful for a build deliberately designed around close-quarters combat, but most Commanders will gain more consistent value from survivability, ammunition, mobility, or utility modifications.

Because Odyssey suit modification slots are permanent and limited, consider whether melee combat is genuinely part of the suit's intended role before installing it.

Damage Resistance

Damage Resistance reduces incoming damage from the four principal on-foot weapon damage types.[1]

The current modifiers are:

  • +10% kinetic damage reduction
  • +10% thermal damage reduction
  • +10% plasma damage reduction
  • +10% explosive damage reduction[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Damage Resistance include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Damage Resistance is one of Jude's strongest general-purpose modifications for a combat-oriented Dominator Suit.

It improves protection against kinetic, thermal, plasma, and explosive attacks rather than depending on the enemy using one particular damage type.

It can also be useful on other suits when increased survivability is worth one of their limited modification slots.

Extra Ammo Capacity

Extra Ammo Capacity increases the amount of ammunition the suit can carry for its weapons.[1]

The current modifier is:

  • +50% ammunition capacity[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Extra Ammo Capacity include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Extra Ammo Capacity is particularly useful on a Dominator Suit used for prolonged surface combat.

The larger ammunition reserve reduces dependence on ammunition crates and allows more engagements before the suit needs to be resupplied.

It can also be valuable on suits used for settlement missions where resupply opportunities may be limited.

Field note

Extra Ammo Capacity modifies the suit's carried ammunition reserve. It is separate from Magazine Size, which modifies how many rounds an individual weapon holds before reloading.

Magazine Size

Magazine Size increases the amount of ammunition held in a handheld weapon's magazine.[1]

The resulting magazine capacity depends on the weapon being modified.

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Magazine Size include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Magazine Size is most useful on weapons whose normal magazine frequently forces a reload at inconvenient points in an engagement.

Its practical value depends heavily on the weapon. A larger magazine can improve sustained fire, but a weapon that already has adequate capacity may benefit more from another modification.

Magazine Size can be particularly useful when combined with a suit carrying Extra Ammo Capacity:

  • Magazine Size increases ammunition available before each reload.
  • Extra Ammo Capacity increases the suit's total carried reserve.

They solve different ammunition limitations.

Reload Speed

Reload Speed shortens the time required to reload a handheld weapon.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Reload Speed include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Reload Speed is one of Jude's strongest broadly useful weapon modifications.

Its benefit applies every time the weapon is reloaded and does not depend on a particular target type, body location, or environmental condition.

The value of Reload Speed increases on weapons whose normal reload animation creates a significant interruption during combat.

Engineer Unlock Chain

Jude Navarro is an independent starting point in the Odyssey Engineer network.

His branch is:

Jude Navarro
└── Terra Velasquez
    └── Oden Geiger

Terra Velasquez is discovered through Jude Navarro.[4]

Terra subsequently leads to Oden Geiger.[5]

Referring Terra Velasquez

After Jude Navarro has been unlocked, provide him with 5 Genetic Repair Meds to receive the referral to Terra Velasquez.[1]

Important

The Genetic Repair Meds are not required to unlock Jude himself.

The two requirements are separate:

  • Unlock Jude Navarro: complete 10 Restore or Reactivation missions.
  • Discover Terra Velasquez: provide Jude with 5 Genetic Repair Meds.

Obtaining Genetic Repair Meds

Genetic Repair Meds are Odyssey Goods.[6]

Current material data lists them in several settlement loot pools, including:

  • MED rooms
  • STO buildings
  • RES buildings
  • IND buildings
  • EXT buildings
  • AGRI buildings[6]

Medical areas are therefore an obvious place to check when searching settlements for them.

Tip

Only 5 Genetic Repair Meds are required. Once Jude is unlocked, keep the first five you find if you intend to continue immediately into the Terra Velasquez branch.

Because Genetic Repair Meds are physical Odyssey Goods rather than Data, they occupy Goods storage and must be physically provided to Jude.

Once the five units have been handed over, Terra Velasquez becomes the next Engineer in the branch.[4]

Increasing Engineer Reputation

Not applicable to Odyssey Engineers in the same way as ship Engineers.

Jude Navarro does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression found at ship Engineer workshops.

Once Jude has been unlocked, his modifications are available provided that:

  • the equipment is compatible;
  • the suit or weapon has an unused modification slot; and
  • you possess the required Odyssey materials and credits.

The equipment itself is upgraded separately through Pioneer Supplies.

Likewise, Jude's referral to Terra is not triggered by raising an Engineer reputation grade. It is triggered specifically by providing 5 Genetic Repair Meds.[1]

See Odyssey Engineering for the complete on-foot Engineering system.

Experimental Effects

Not applicable.

Odyssey suit and handheld-weapon Engineering does not use the separate ship-module Experimental Effects system.

Jude's five modifications are themselves the permanent modifications installed onto the equipment.

Blueprint Pinning

Not applicable.

Odyssey modifications cannot be pinned for Remote Engineering in the same manner as ship Engineering blueprints.

A suit or weapon must be taken to Jude Navarro or another Odyssey Engineer who offers the desired modification.

Field note

Unlocking Jude therefore does not make Damage Resistance, Extra Ammo Capacity, Magazine Size, or Reload Speed remotely available from another station.

Jude's modification set is particularly useful for combat-oriented equipment.

= Dominator Suit

For a Dominator Suit intended primarily for surface conflict zones, settlement combat, or combat missions:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Damage Resistance and Extra Ammo Capacity are both strong general-purpose choices.

Damage Resistance improves survivability against all four major on-foot weapon damage types, while Extra Ammo Capacity increases combat endurance by carrying 50% more ammunition.

The two modifications complement each other:

  • Damage Resistance helps the suit survive longer.
  • Extra Ammo Capacity allows the Commander to remain combat-effective longer before resupplying.

Added Melee Damage is much more specialised and is best reserved for a suit intentionally built around very close-range combat.

General-purpose weapon

For weapons, Jude offers:

Neither is universally superior.

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Reload Speed is the safer general-purpose choice when the weapon's reload cycle regularly interrupts combat.

Magazine Size can be stronger on weapons whose small normal magazine is the more significant limitation.

The choice should therefore be made on a weapon-by-weapon basis rather than applying the same modification automatically to every firearm.

Combining ammunition modifications

A combat build can use both:

  • Extra Ammo Capacity on the suit; and
  • Magazine Size on the weapon.

This increases both total ammunition reserve and ammunition available between reloads.

Alternatively, combining Extra Ammo Capacity with Reload Speed leaves the weapon's magazine unchanged but reduces the interruption each time that magazine is emptied.

What Jude Cannot Modify

Jude currently provides five modification types:

  • Added Melee Damage — suit
  • Damage Resistance — suit
  • Extra Ammo Capacity — suit
  • Magazine Size — weapon
  • Reload Speed — weapon[1]

Other modifications require different Engineers.

Examples include:
