Usage

The standard media-information template for EDFM file pages — describes the asset (what it depicts, where it came from, who made/captured it, how it's been altered, what it's for). It does not handle licensing — that stays in its own == Licensing == section via the existing {{License-ED screenshot}} / {{License-Official Frontier media}} / etc. templates (selected from the Licensing dropdown on Special:Upload), so the two responsibilities don't get tangled together on the page. See Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Image Use Policy for why this split matters.

This template also does not duplicate the subject's own article — it describes the picture, not the Engineer/ship/location pictured. Gameplay facts (location, unlock requirements, specialties, etc.) belong on the subject's own article, not here.

Place this under == Summary == on the file page (MediaWiki generates that heading automatically from the upload description). Put the licensing classification under a separate == Licensing == section, as already happens automatically when a Licensing option is picked at upload time.

Fields:

• description — a sentence describing what the image actually shows.
• subject — what's pictured. Wikilink it yourself (e.g. Hero Ferrari) when the subject has its own EDFM article and linking would actually help someone reach it — don't link just for the sake of it.
• subject_type — optional; a short classification of the subject (e.g. "Engineer", "Ship", "Station", "Settlement", "UI element").
• source — where the media originated; defaults to "Elite Dangerous". Override for other cases, e.g. "Frontier Developments promotional/media asset" or "Created for Elite Dangerous Field Manual".
• media_type — defaults to "In-game screenshot". Other examples: "Cropped in-game screenshot", "Promotional image", "Frontier press asset", "Logo", "Diagram", "EDFM-created graphic", "User-created illustration", "Map", "UI screenshot".
• captured_by — the contributor's commander name or handle. Always fill this in — leaving it out flags the file into Category:Files missing source information rather than silently crediting nobody.
• capture_date — optional, omitted entirely (no row shown) if not given. Use the actual capture/creation date only if it's actually known — do not substitute the upload date unless that's genuinely also the capture date.
• modifications — optional, omitted entirely if not given. Only note changes with practical relevance (cropped, resized, background removed, colour corrected, composite, etc.) — don't list routine technical detail with no bearing on how the image should be read, and don't claim "original"/unmodified unless that's actually known.
• intended_use — what the image is for on EDFM (e.g. "Identification and illustration on the Hero Ferrari article").
• copyright_holder — who actually owns the underlying material (e.g. "Frontier Developments plc" for anything showing game assets, "EDFM" or a named contributor for original diagrams/graphics, a named third party if used with permission). State only what's actually known — don't infer.
• notes — optional, anything else worth recording.
