How EDFM handles visitor data. This describes what is actually implemented, not a generic template.

Summary

  • No advertising.
  • No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no session replay, no behavioural tracking or fingerprinting scripts.
  • No third-party marketing scripts.
  • No unnecessary cookies. MediaWiki sets a session cookie (needed for login and editing) and, for logged-in users, preference cookies. Anonymous readers browsing without logging in receive minimal to no persistent cookies.
  • No externally hosted fonts or automatically loaded third-party embeds — static assets are served from this origin.

Cloudflare

This site is intended to run behind Cloudflare, which provides DNS, reverse-proxying, TLS termination, and security filtering for the site. Cloudflare therefore sees connection metadata (visitor IP, request patterns) for all traffic to this site as an inherent part of providing that service, per Cloudflare's own privacy policy. The site operator does not add any additional Cloudflare analytics or tracking products beyond what's needed for DNS/proxying/TLS/basic security. See `/opt/edwiki/docs/cloudflare-configuration.md` for exactly what's configured.

Server logs

The web server keeps standard access/error logs (requested URL, response code, timestamp, visitor IP) for operational and security purposes (diagnosing outages, spotting abuse). These are not shared with third parties and are rotated/expired automatically rather than kept indefinitely.

Accounts

Account creation is currently closed while the site is being built. When it opens, an account requires only a username, password, and optionally an email (used solely for password recovery/notifications you opt into) — see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Contributing.
