Terms of Use for CMDR Fima, EDFM's Discord bot.

These Terms of Use explain the basic rules for using or interacting with CMDR Fima, the Discord bot operated as part of the Elite Dangerous Field Manual (EDFM).

EDFM policy commitments — quick reference

  • Operator/contact: Elite Dangerous Field Manual (EDFM) is operated as an independent community project. For policy, privacy, copyright, licensing, or site-operation questions, contact [email protected].
  • Unofficial status: EDFM is not affiliated with, operated by, sponsored by, endorsed by, or reviewed by Frontier Developments plc. Frontier names, marks, game assets, and imagery remain Frontier's or their owners' property.
  • Accounts, edits, and uploads: Anyone may create an account. Logged-in users may edit pages. Logged-in users may upload permitted image types subject to file type, size, rate-limit, licensing, moderation, and anti-abuse rules. Anonymous uploads remain disabled. EDFM may later restrict account creation, editing, or uploads for spam, security, abuse-prevention, legal, or moderation reasons.
  • Age: EDFM is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or provide personal information.
  • Contribution license: Unless a page clearly says otherwise, original text submitted to EDFM is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Frontier-owned game material, third-party material, trademarks, personal information, EDFM software/infrastructure, and EDFM branding are not relicensed by that text license.
  • Personal data and advertising: EDFM does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for behavioural advertising. EDFM does not use advertising cookies, cross-site marketing cookies, remarketing, enhanced conversions, Google Ads audiences, AdSense, Meta Pixel, session replay, or ad-personalisation features. Optional Google Analytics is used only after Analytics consent on eligible public pages and is excluded from sensitive account, authentication, Frontier OAuth, and profile pages.
  • Account removal and public history: If account removal is requested, EDFM's normal approach is to disable or rename the account where appropriate while preserving public edits, file history, logs, and other records needed for attribution, licensing, moderation, security, legal compliance, and wiki integrity.
  • Logs and backups: Operational logs are intended to rotate at about 60 days unless longer retention is temporarily needed for abuse, security, outages, or legal reasons. EDFM takes daily backups; removed or changed data may remain in already-created backups until those backups expire under the backup schedule.
  • Cookies and consent: Necessary cookies/storage support login, security, account creation, preferences, and cookie-choice handling. Optional Analytics/site-improvement cookies are controlled through Cookie Preferences. Rejecting optional cookies should not prevent ordinary reading.
  • Frontier login and CAPI: Normal Frontier sign-in is for account login/linking only and requests auth, not Companion API (capi) access. Commander-name verification is a separate optional Preferences action; choosing Attach CMDR Name requests auth capi, reads the Commander name once, and keeps that Commander name private by default unless the user later enables public display.

Acceptance

By using or interacting with CMDR Fima in Discord, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the bot's commands, buttons, menus, modals, or other interactive features.

These terms are scoped to CMDR Fima. The EDFM website and wiki have separate site terms at Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Terms of Use.

Purpose

CMDR Fima is an EDFM Discord companion. It provides EDFM information lookup, supported Elite Dangerous information and data integrations, moderation tools, member verification, role management, onboarding, logging, and community-administration functions.

CMDR Fima is currently operated primarily for the official EDFM Discord server. These terms may also apply if EDFM later uses the bot in additional Discord communities.

Discord rules and server rules

Use of CMDR Fima does not replace any other rules. Users remain subject to:

  • Discord's own Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and platform rules;
  • the rules of the EDFM Discord server or any other Discord community where CMDR Fima is used;
  • applicable law.

Discord may separately restrict, remove, or process content and accounts under Discord's own policies.

Permitted use

You may use CMDR Fima's commands and components for their intended purposes, including looking up EDFM information, using supported Elite Dangerous data features, completing verification, selecting available self-assignable roles, and interacting with staff or moderation workflows when appropriate.

Authorized moderators and administrators may use CMDR Fima's staff tools for legitimate community administration, moderation, security, and support purposes.

Prohibited use

Do not use CMDR Fima to:

  • bypass permissions, role requirements, or staff-only restrictions;
  • escalate your own roles or someone else's roles without authorization;
  • exploit command handlers, buttons, select menus, modals, or interaction tokens;
  • abuse commands, spam interactions, flood the bot, or attempt denial-of-service behaviour;
  • obtain, guess, steal, leak, or misuse bot credentials, API keys, secrets, database files, or staff-only information;
  • interfere with moderation systems, logs, verification, role panels, or warning records;
  • knowingly provide malicious input intended to break the bot or Discord clients;
  • impersonate staff, misrepresent moderation actions, or evade enforcement;
  • violate Discord rules, server rules, or applicable law.

This list is not intended to prohibit normal good-faith use of the bot.

Moderation

CMDR Fima is a tool used by authorized EDFM moderators and administrators. Moderation actions supported by the current implementation may include warnings, mutes, kicks, bans, unbans, message deletion/purging, channel locks and unlocks, staff notes, moderation cases, and moderation/member/message logging where enabled.

Most moderation decisions are made by human staff. CMDR Fima does not independently moderate users using AI or arbitrary automated judgment.

The current warning system may automatically apply the configured mute role when the configured warning threshold is reached. For the current EDFM configuration, that threshold is three active warnings. Warnings themselves are issued by authorized human moderators.

EDFM administrators may restrict access to CMDR Fima or the EDFM Discord when reasonably necessary to enforce rules, protect the community, prevent abuse, preserve security, or respond to operational problems.

Accuracy of information

EDFM and CMDR Fima aim to provide accurate and useful Elite Dangerous information, but the information may be incomplete, outdated, unavailable, or affected by game updates, wiki edits, third-party provider changes, or community-supplied data.

Commodity, market, station, system, and availability information is informational only. Prices, supply, demand, market availability, station services, routes, and other in-game facts may be stale or may change before you reach a market or act on the information. CMDR Fima does not guarantee profit, availability, or a specific gameplay outcome.

Use in-game judgment and verify important information where it matters.

Third-party services

CMDR Fima operates through Discord and uses Discord's API and gateway. The current implementation also contacts:

Those services may have their own terms, privacy policies, availability limits, and data practices. CMDR Fima cannot guarantee the accuracy or availability of third-party or community data services.

Intellectual property and affiliation

EDFM and CMDR Fima are independent community projects. They are not Frontier Developments, Discord, or an official service of either company.

Elite Dangerous, related names, marks, and game assets belong to Frontier Developments plc and/or their respective owners. Discord names, marks, and platform features belong to Discord or its affiliates. Use of those names is for identification and community reference and does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or review by Frontier Developments or Discord.

Availability and changes

CMDR Fima is provided as a community bot. It may be unavailable, restarted, rate-limited, disabled, changed, or removed without advance notice. Features may change as EDFM's needs, Discord's API, Elite Dangerous, or supported data providers change.

EDFM may disable or restrict features for maintenance, security, abuse prevention, configuration changes, or operational reasons.

Disclaimer and responsibility

CMDR Fima is provided for community administration and gameplay/reference assistance. It is not guaranteed to be uninterrupted, error-free, complete, or current. External/community market data may be incomplete or stale. Users remain responsible for their own Discord conduct and in-game decisions.

Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude responsibility that cannot legally be excluded, but EDFM does not accept responsibility for ordinary gameplay losses, missed opportunities, stale market data, interrupted bot access, or reliance on incomplete community information.

Changes to these terms

These Terms of Use may be updated when CMDR Fima's functionality, operating environment, or community use changes. The last-updated date at the top of this page should be revised when material changes are made.

Continued use of CMDR Fima after changes means you accept the updated terms.
