Upcoming Rhino scanner used to locate planetary mining deposits.

The Planetary Mineral Scanner is announced equipment associated with the Rhino Surface Recon Vehicle and Surface Mining. Frontier has stated that the Rhino comes equipped with the scanner and uses it to detect planetary mining deposits.

Function

According to Frontier's August 2026 developer log, the Planetary Mineral Scanner identifies mineral patches while the Rhino is on a planetary surface. The scanner marks deposits both on the planetary surface and on sensors so the Rhino and its crew can set up for extraction.

Frontier has not yet published enough released-game detail to document scanner range, interface controls, tuning, engineering, prices, or compatibility outside the Rhino.
