Gold
EDFM // Reference
A Metals commodity produced by Extraction and Refinery economies, and Lei Cheung's unlock requirement.
Gold is a Metals commodity carried as ordinary cargo, valued for its corrosion resistance and its use in jewellery, luxury goods, and electronics contacts.[1] It is produced by Extraction and Refinery economy stations and consumed by most other station types.[1]
Why it matters for Engineering
Lei Cheung requires 200 units of Gold to unlock his Engineering workshop at Trader's Rest in Laksak. As an ordinary commodity, each unit occupies one tonne of cargo space; the full 200-unit requirement needs 200 tonnes of cargo capacity if delivered in a single trip, or can be split across multiple trips.
Acquisition
Gold can be obtained two ways:
- Buy it. Commodity markets at stations with an Extraction or Refinery economy routinely stock Gold.[1] Use a current commodity-market search rather than assuming one specific station's stock is permanent.
- Mine it. Gold is a minable metal; prospecting and refining it yourself avoids depending on any station's market stock entirely, at the cost of needing mining equipment and time.
Tip
Because 200 units is a substantial market purchase, check current sell/buy prices and available stock at more than one Extraction/Refinery station before committing to a single trip — allocations and prices vary by station and over time.
