These terms explain the basic rules for using and contributing to Elite Dangerous Field Manual (EDFM).

Summary

EDFM policy commitments — quick reference

• Operator/contact: Elite Dangerous Field Manual (EDFM) is operated as an independent community project. For policy, privacy, copyright, licensing, or site-operation questions, contact [email protected].
• Unofficial status: EDFM is not affiliated with, operated by, sponsored by, endorsed by, or reviewed by Frontier Developments plc. Frontier names, marks, game assets, and imagery remain Frontier's or their owners' property.
• Accounts, edits, and uploads: Anyone may create an account. Logged-in users may edit pages. Logged-in users may upload permitted image types subject to file type, size, rate-limit, licensing, moderation, and anti-abuse rules. Anonymous uploads remain disabled. EDFM may later restrict account creation, editing, or uploads for spam, security, abuse-prevention, legal, or moderation reasons.
• Age: EDFM is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or provide personal information.
• Contribution license: Unless a page clearly says otherwise, original text submitted to EDFM is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Frontier-owned game material, third-party material, trademarks, personal information, EDFM software/infrastructure, and EDFM branding are not relicensed by that text license.
• Personal data and advertising: EDFM does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for behavioural advertising. EDFM does not use advertising cookies, cross-site marketing cookies, remarketing, enhanced conversions, Google Ads audiences, AdSense, Meta Pixel, session replay, or ad-personalisation features. Optional Google Analytics is used only after Analytics consent on eligible public pages and is excluded from sensitive account, authentication, Frontier OAuth, and profile pages.
• Account removal and public history: If account removal is requested, EDFM's normal approach is to disable or rename the account where appropriate while preserving public edits, file history, logs, and other records needed for attribution, licensing, moderation, security, legal compliance, and wiki integrity.
• Logs and backups: Operational logs are intended to rotate at about 60 days unless longer retention is temporarily needed for abuse, security, outages, or legal reasons. EDFM takes daily backups; removed or changed data may remain in already-created backups until those backups expire under the backup schedule.
• Cookies and consent: Necessary cookies/storage support login, security, account creation, preferences, and cookie-choice handling. Optional Analytics/site-improvement cookies are controlled through Cookie Preferences. Rejecting optional cookies should not prevent ordinary reading.
• Frontier login and CAPI: Normal Frontier sign-in is for account login/linking only and requests auth, not Companion API (capi) access. Commander-name verification is a separate optional Preferences action; choosing Attach CMDR Name requests auth capi, reads the Commander name once, and keeps that Commander name private by default unless the user later enables public display.

Independent community project

EDFM is operated as an independent community project. It is not an official Frontier Developments site. Elite, Elite Dangerous, related names, marks, and game assets belong to Frontier Developments plc and/or their respective owners. See Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Legal and Trademark Notice.

Accounts and eligibility

You may browse EDFM without an account. Some features, including editing and uploading, require an account.

EDFM is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or provide personal information. If local law requires a higher age for account creation or consent where you live, you are responsible for following that law.

You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your login credentials secure.

Contribution license

Unless a page clearly says otherwise, original text submitted to EDFM is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). By submitting original text, you confirm that you have the right to contribute it under that license.

Do not copy text from Fandom, Inara, Reddit, Discord, forums, other wikis, official websites, books, guides, AI outputs, or any other source unless you have verified permission and the license is compatible. Citing a source supports a fact; it does not grant permission to copy that source's wording.

Images and uploads

Uploaded files must follow Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Image Use Policy and Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Screenshot Policy.

Contributor-created original media is normally licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 unless a more specific permitted license/classification is selected or stated. Elite Dangerous screenshots and game imagery are not made CC-licensed by being uploaded here; the underlying game assets remain Frontier's or their owners' property and are handled under the site's Frontier/game-media classifications.

Do not upload files containing private personal information, private chat logs, doxxing material, malware, copyrighted material you cannot use, or images copied from other sites without verified permission.

Public wiki records

Wiki contributions are normally public and historical. Page histories, edit summaries, file histories, talk-page comments, logs, and timestamps may remain visible for attribution, accountability, licensing, anti-abuse, and site-integrity reasons.

If you request account removal, EDFM may disable or rename the account while retaining public edits and logs where needed for attribution, moderation, security, and legal reasons. See Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

Do not use EDFM to:

• harass, threaten, impersonate, or target others;
• post spam, scams, malware, phishing, or malicious links;
• evade blocks, rate limits, or security systems;
• abuse automated access or scrape in a way that harms the site;
• post knowingly false claims as verified facts;
• upload or publish unlawful, infringing, or privacy-invasive material;
• interfere with the operation or security of the site.

Moderation and enforcement

EDFM may edit, revert, hide, delete, block, rename, restrict, or otherwise moderate accounts and content where needed to protect the community, comply with law, preserve attribution, enforce these terms, prevent abuse, or maintain the wiki.

Frontier login and commander data

Frontier login is available as an alternative sign-in/registration method (see Special:UserLogin). Normal Frontier sign-in is for account login/linking only and does not request Companion API (capi) access. Commander-name verification through CAPI is a separate optional Preferences action; if a user chooses Attach CMDR Name, EDFM may request auth capi, read the Commander name once, and grant the Verified Commander badge — see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Verified Commanders for exactly what that does and does not mean. Frontier account and Commander identities are personally identifiable information; see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Privacy Policy for what EDFM stores and how Frontier data is, and is not, used.

No warranties

EDFM is provided as a community reference. It may contain errors, outdated information, incomplete pages, downtime, or broken features. Use in-game judgement and verify important information.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the site develops. Continued use of EDFM after changes means you accept the updated terms.
