How to cite sources on EDFM.
Formal citations: use <ref> tags
The Cite extension is enabled — use ordinary <ref> tags, not a citation template:
Deliver 50 units of Fujin Tea.<ref>[https://inara.cz/elite/engineer/15/ Broo Tarquin — engineer], Inara, accessed 2026-08-07.</ref>
Reuse a named ref for the same source cited more than once on a page: <ref name="inara-broo">...</ref> the first time, <ref name="inara-broo" /> after. End every article that carries citations with a == Sources == section containing <references />. There is no {{cite web}} template on this wiki — plain [url Title], Site, accessed YYYY-MM-DD. inside the ref tag is the house format.
Marking uncertain content inline
Not everything needs a footnote — for content that's uncertain rather than simply sourced, use the dedicated templates instead of (or alongside) a citation:
{{Unverified claim}}— a single-source claim, not independently confirmed.{{Estimated information}}— an approximate/derived figure, not a measured one.{{Community observation}}— well-established community consensus without a known Frontier confirmation.
See Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Source Quality Guide for the full tier system these correspond to, and how to fill in {{Article status}}'s source_quality field.
Don't clutter every sentence
If a whole section draws on the same one or two sources, it's fine to cite once per section rather than once per sentence, as long as it's unambiguous which claims the citation covers. Reserve per-sentence citation for genuinely contested or surprising figures.
Never copy text verbatim from other sites
Research a fact, then write EDFM's own sentence describing it — never paste text from Inara, Fandom, Frontier's own site, or anywhere else, even with a citation attached. A citation records where a fact came from; it doesn't license copying the source's wording.
