EDFM // Engineering / Engineers
A Grade 5 Sensors and Detailed Surface Scanner specialist based at Jameson Base in permit-locked Shinrarta Dezhra, reached through Marco Qwent.
Lori Jameson is a ship Engineer based at Jameson Base in the permit-locked Shinrarta Dezhra system. She is reached through Marco Qwent and specialises in scanners, exploration equipment, and several support modules.[1]
Lori provides Grade 5 Sensors and Grade 5 Detailed Surface Scanner Engineering. She also provides Grade 4 Engineering for Auto Field-Maintenance Units, Fuel Scoops, Life Support, and Refineries, along with Grade 3 Engineering for Shield Cell Banks, Frame Shift Wake Scanners, Kill Warrant Scanners, and Manifest Scanners.[1]
Field note
Lori has two separate access considerations: you must meet her own Dangerous Combat-rank requirement, and you must also be able to enter the permit-locked Shinrarta Dezhra system. Reaching Dangerous alone does not grant access to the system.
Location
- System: Shinrarta Dezhra
- Facility: Jameson Base
- Engineer type: Ship Engineer
- Referral required: Marco Qwent
- System permit required: Yes — Founders World permit
Jameson Base cannot be reached unless your Commander already has permission to enter Shinrarta Dezhra.[1]
Important
Do not confuse Jameson Base with Jameson Memorial. Both are in Shinrarta Dezhra, but Lori Jameson's Engineer workshop is located at Jameson Base.
How to Discover Lori Jameson
Lori Jameson is discovered through Marco Qwent.
Reach Grade 3 access and progress at least one-third of the way toward Grade 4 with Marco to receive his referral to Lori.[2]
Field note
Receiving Marco's referral makes Lori known to you. It does not satisfy her Combat-rank requirement or grant the permit required to enter Shinrarta Dezhra.
How to Receive an Invitation
Reach Combat rank Dangerous or higher.[1]
The Combat-rank progression leading to Dangerous is:
Harmless
└── Mostly Harmless
└── Novice
└── Competent
└── Expert
└── Master
└── Dangerous
If your Combat rank is already Dangerous, Deadly, Elite, or one of the higher Elite tiers, Lori's Combat-rank requirement has been satisfied.
See Combat Rank for how Combat rank is earned and how to check your current progress.
Shinrarta Dezhra permit requirement
Meeting Lori's Combat requirement does not by itself allow you to visit her.
Shinrarta Dezhra is a permit-locked system, and Jameson Base is located inside it.[1]
You must therefore also hold the Founders World permit before travelling to Lori's workshop.
See Shinrarta Dezhra Permit for the current ways to obtain access and how to verify whether the permit has already been granted to your Commander.
Important
The Dangerous Combat rank and the Shinrarta Dezhra permit are separate requirements. A Commander who satisfies one does not necessarily satisfy the other.
How to Unlock Lori Jameson
Unlock requirements summary:
- Reach Grade 3 access and at least one-third progress toward Grade 4 with Marco Qwent.
- Reach Dangerous or higher in Combat Rank.
- Obtain the permit required to enter Shinrarta Dezhra.
- Obtain 25 units of Kongga Ale.
- Donate the 25 Kongga Ale to Lori Jameson.
Important
Kongga Ale is a rare commodity. It is not a Raw, Manufactured, or Encoded Engineering material. The 25 units occupy normal cargo space, so transporting the full unlock requirement requires at least 25 tonnes of cargo capacity.
For the complete step-by-step process, see Unlocking Lori Jameson.
Obtaining Kongga Ale
The normal production source for Kongga Ale is:
Only 25 units are required for Lori's unlock.
Tip
Rare-commodity availability can vary. Check the current supply before assuming that all 25 units will be available in a single purchase.
Fleet Carriers may also resell Kongga Ale, but carrier inventories and prices are controlled by individual Commanders and can change. Laplace Ring is the commodity's normal production source.[3]
Field note
Current Engineer data notes that station services may not become available immediately after Lori is unlocked. If the workshop or other expected services do not appear after completing the unlock, logging out and back in may make them available.[1]
Increasing Engineer Reputation
Reputation with Lori Jameson can be increased by:
- crafting Engineering modifications at Jameson Base; or
- selling exploration data at Jameson Base.[1]
Higher Engineer reputation gives access to the higher grades Lori supports for each blueprint.
See Engineer Reputation for how ship Engineer reputation, grade access, blueprint progression, referrals, and alternative reputation methods work.
Tip
If you have unsold exploration data when you unlock Lori, selling it at Jameson Base can help raise your Engineer reputation without relying entirely on repeated Engineering rolls.
Engineer Unlock Chain
Lori Jameson belongs to the Elvira Martuuk branch of the ship Engineer network.
The route to Lori is:
Elvira Martuuk
└── Marco Qwent
└── Lori Jameson
Marco Qwent can also refer Commanders to Chloe Sedesi and Professor Palin:
Elvira Martuuk
└── Marco Qwent
├── Chloe Sedesi
├── Lori Jameson
└── Professor Palin
Lori Jameson does not currently lead to another Engineer in the ship Engineer referral network.[4]
Field note
Chloe Sedesi, Lori Jameson, and Professor Palin are parallel referrals from Marco Qwent. None of the three must be unlocked before either of the others.
See Engineer Unlock Guide for the complete referral network.

Operations-era Engineering
Two blueprints available through Lori were introduced with the Operations-era Engineering additions:
- Long Range Detailed for the Detailed Surface Scanner
- Scoop Rate Enhanced for the Fuel Scoop[5]
These blueprints are available only in Live and are not part of the Legacy Engineering system.
Long Range Detailed
Long Range Detailed improves Detailed Surface Scanner probe radius at the cost of increased module mass and power draw.
Lori can apply it through Grade 5.[6]
Important
Long Range Detailed can only be applied to compatible Merc modules in the current Live Engineering system.[6]
Scoop Rate Enhanced
Scoop Rate Enhanced increases a Fuel Scoop's scoop rate at the cost of increased power draw.
Lori can apply it through Grade 4.[7]
The blueprint uses Merc Coin as part of its Engineering cost in addition to conventional Engineering materials.[7]
Experimental Effects
Most of the modules Lori engineers do not have Experimental Effects.
The exception among her current Engineering specialties is the Shield Cell Bank, which supports the following Experimental Effects:[8]
Her Sensors, Detailed Surface Scanners, Auto Field-Maintenance Units, Fuel Scoops, Life Support modules, Refineries, Frame Shift Wake Scanners, Kill Warrant Scanners, and Manifest Scanners do not currently have Experimental Effects available.
See Experimental Effects for the effects, tradeoffs, and material costs of each option.
Field note
Experimental Effects cannot be applied through ordinary Remote Engineering. A Shield Cell Bank must be taken to an Engineer who works on that module if you want to apply an Experimental Effect.
Recommended Engineering
Lori's Engineering coverage is broad, but several of her capabilities are particularly useful.
Lightweight Sensors
Lori provides Lightweight Sensors through Grade 5.
Lightweight Engineering substantially reduces Sensor mass at the cost of integrity and passive scan angle, making it useful on ships where reducing mass is more important than maintaining maximum Sensor durability or passive coverage.[9]
Detailed Surface Scanner
Lori provides both of her available Detailed Surface Scanner blueprints through Grade 5, making her one of the maximum-grade Engineers for the module.
Expanded Probe Scanning Radius is useful for Commanders who want more forgiving and efficient planetary mapping.
Live Commanders with compatible equipment can also use the newer Long Range Detailed blueprint.
Lightweight Life Support
Lori can apply Lightweight Life Support through Grade 4.
Reducing Life Support mass can be useful on exploration vessels, racing ships, and other mass-sensitive builds. Commanders seeking Grade 5 Life Support Engineering will eventually need Etienne Dorn in Colonia.
Fuel Scoop Engineering
In Live, Lori can apply Scoop Rate Enhanced through Grade 4, increasing fuel collection rate in exchange for additional power draw.
This can be useful for ships where minimizing time spent fuel scooping is more important than power efficiency.
Blueprint Pinning
After earning sufficient reputation with Lori, one of her blueprints can be pinned for use through Remote Engineering.
Tip
EDFM recommendation: Lightweight Sensors is a strong general-purpose blueprint to consider pinning at Lori.
Lori provides Lightweight Sensors through Grade 5, and reducing Sensor mass is useful across many exploration, racing, and general-purpose builds.
If Lightweight Sensors is already pinned through another Grade 5 Sensor Engineer, Lori's pin can instead be used for a blueprint that better fits your fleet, such as Expanded Probe Scanning Radius or Lightweight Life Support.
Blueprint pinning should reflect the modules and ships you actually use; there is no requirement to use the suggested pin.
Important
A pinned blueprint does not allow you to apply Experimental Effects remotely. Experimental Effects still require visiting an appropriate Engineer workshop.
What Lori Cannot Fully Engineer
Lori reaches Grade 5 with Sensors and Detailed Surface Scanners, but several of her other specialties stop at lower grades.
Her maximum grades are:
- Sensors: Grade 5
- Detailed Surface Scanner: Grade 5
- Auto Field-Maintenance Unit: Grade 4
- Fuel Scoop: Grade 4
- Life Support: Grade 4
- Refinery: Grade 4
- Shield Cell Bank: Grade 3
- Frame Shift Wake Scanner: Grade 3
- Kill Warrant Scanner: Grade 3
- Manifest Scanner: Grade 3[1]
For higher-grade alternatives where they exist:
- Etienne Dorn provides Grade 5 Life Support and Grade 5 Engineering for the three utility scanners in Colonia.
- Tiana Fortune provides Grade 5 Frame Shift Wake Scanner, Kill Warrant Scanner, and Manifest Scanner Engineering.
- Mel Brandon provides Grade 4 Shield Cell Bank Engineering in Colonia.
- Marsha Hicks provides Grade 5 Scoop Rate Enhanced Fuel Scoop Engineering in the current Live game.[4][7]
Lori is therefore particularly valuable for maximum-grade Sensor and Detailed Surface Scanner work, while several of her support-module specialties have higher-grade alternatives elsewhere.
What Next?
Lori Jameson is the end of her referral branch and does not currently introduce another Engineer.
After unlocking her, your next Engineering target depends on which modules you still need to improve.
