Hero Ferrari is an Odyssey Engineer based at Nevermore Terrace in the Siris system. She is an independent starting Engineer and does not require a referral from another Engineer.[1]

Hero specialises in a mixture of suit mobility and endurance modifications and weapon handling and suppression. Her available modifications are Faster Handling, Noise Suppressor, Improved Jump Assist, Increased Air Reserves, and Increased Sprint Duration.[1]

Field note

Odyssey Engineering works differently from ship Engineering. On-foot Engineers do not use the ship Engineer Grade 1–5 reputation progression. Suit and weapon grades determine how many modification slots the equipment has; Engineers install individual modifications into those slots.

Location

  • System: Siris
  • Settlement: Nevermore Terrace
  • Body: Siris 5 c
  • Engineer type: Odyssey Engineer
  • Prerequisite Engineer: None
  • System permit required: No

Nevermore Terrace is a surface Engineer base on Siris 5 c, approximately 1,500 Ls from the system arrival point.[2]

The settlement includes a concourse and the services required to access Hero's Engineering workshop.[2]

How to Discover Hero Ferrari

Hero Ferrari is common knowledge and does not require a referral from another Engineer.[1]

She is therefore one of the independent starting points in the Odyssey Engineer network.

Field note

This is different from Engineers such as Wellington Beck, who only become known after completing a referral requirement for another Engineer.

How to Receive an Invitation

There is no separate invitation requirement for Hero Ferrari.

Her access requirement is simply to complete 10 surface conflict zones.[1]

How to Unlock Hero Ferrari

Complete 10 surface conflict zones.[1]

A typical progression is:

  1. Find a system with an active ground conflict.
  2. Visit a station or settlement with Frontline Solutions.
  3. Choose a surface conflict zone.
  4. Travel to the conflict zone using the Frontline Solutions dropship or your own transport.
  5. Choose a side and complete the battle.
  6. Repeat until you have completed 10 surface conflict zones.
  7. Travel to Nevermore Terrace on Siris 5 c.
  8. Access Hero Ferrari's Engineer workshop.

Important

Hero's requirement is based on surface conflict zones. Ordinary ship Combat Zones do not satisfy this Odyssey Engineer unlock.

See Surface Conflict Zones and Frontline Solutions for how ground conflicts work.

Field note

Current Engineer data lists the requirement simply as 10 surface conflict zones. EDFM does not impose an additional Low-, Medium-, or High-intensity requirement that is not present in the current Engineer listing.[1]

Field note

Current Engineer data notes that station services may not become available immediately after Hero is unlocked. If her expected services do not appear after completing the tenth conflict zone, logging out and back in may make them available.[1]

Odyssey Engineering at Hero Ferrari

Odyssey suit and weapon Engineering is structurally different from ship-module Engineering.

Suits and handheld weapons have an equipment grade, with higher grades providing additional modification slots. The Engineer then installs individual modifications into those available slots.

The modification itself does not have a Grade 1–5 progression at Hero's workshop.

Important

Do not confuse equipment grade with Engineer modification grade. A Grade 5 suit or weapon has more modification slots, but Improved Jump Assist or Faster Handling is installed as a single modification rather than being rolled from Grade 1 through Grade 5.

See Odyssey Engineering for suit and weapon upgrading, modification slots, Engineering materials, and the distinction between equipment upgrades and Engineer modifications.

Available Engineering

Hero currently provides five Odyssey modifications.[1]

Modification Equipment Effect Engineering cost
Faster Handling Handheld weapon Reduces weapon draw/stow time and improves aiming-down-sights handling.
Noise Suppressor Handheld weapon Reduces the audible sound produced by the weapon when fired in a pressurised environment.
Improved Jump Assist Suit Extends the effective operating duration of the suit's Jump Assist system.
Increased Air Reserves Suit Increases emergency oxygen capacity after suit power is depleted.
Increased Sprint Duration Suit Reduces the limitation imposed by exhaustion during sustained sprinting.

The listed costs are the current modification recipes.[1]

Faster Handling

Faster Handling is a weapon modification that reduces the delay involved in drawing and stowing a weapon and improves its handling while aiming down sights.[1]

It can be applied to compatible handheld weapons, including sidearms.[3]

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Faster Handling is particularly useful on weapons where quickly switching between weapons matters.

It can be valuable on loadouts that frequently alternate between shield-stripping and armour-damage weapons, and on sidearms that need to be brought into action quickly.

Other Engineers providing Faster Handling include:

Noise Suppressor

Noise Suppressor reduces the audible sound produced when a weapon is fired in a pressurised environment.[1]

This distinction matters because Odyssey has two separate sound-related weapon modifications:

  • Noise Suppressor — suppresses the physical sound of gunfire in pressurised environments.
  • Audio Masking — suppresses the simulated sound signature of gunfire in unpressurised environments.

Important

Noise Suppressor and Audio Masking are not interchangeable. Noise Suppressor is the modification relevant to pressurised interiors, while Audio Masking addresses unpressurised environments.

Noise Suppressor is therefore especially useful on weapons intended for stealth-oriented settlement operations.

Other Engineers providing Noise Suppressor include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Noise Suppressor is most valuable on a weapon specifically intended for covert settlement work.

Do not spend a modification slot on it automatically for a weapon used almost entirely in open combat or surface conflict zones.

Improved Jump Assist

Improved Jump Assist extends the effective operating duration of a suit's Jump Assist system.[1]

This improves vertical mobility and makes it easier to:

  • reach rooftops and elevated settlement structures;
  • cross uneven terrain;
  • reposition during combat;
  • climb structures during salvage or infiltration; and
  • move efficiently in low-gravity environments.

Other Engineers providing Improved Jump Assist include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Improved Jump Assist is one of Hero's most broadly useful suit modifications.

Unlike modifications built around a particular mission type, improved mobility can benefit combat, salvage, exploration, infiltration, and general settlement movement.

Increased Air Reserves

Increased Air Reserves increases suit emergency air capacity by 100%.[1]

Emergency air becomes relevant when the suit no longer has enough power to operate its normal life-support systems.

Other Engineers providing Increased Air Reserves include:

Field note

Increased Air Reserves affects emergency life-support endurance. It does not increase the suit's main energy capacity; that is handled by the separate Improved Battery Capacity modification.

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Increased Air Reserves is situational.

It can provide additional safety during prolonged operations where suit energy may be exhausted, but most general-purpose builds will normally gain more day-to-day value from mobility, battery, defensive, or inventory modifications.

Increased Sprint Duration

Increased Sprint Duration improves sustained on-foot mobility by reducing the limitations imposed by exhaustion during sprinting.[1]

Other Engineers providing Increased Sprint Duration include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Increased Sprint Duration is a strong general-purpose mobility modification.

It is useful for traversing large settlements, moving between objectives, escaping hostile NPCs, and repositioning during ground combat.

Improved Jump Assist and Increased Sprint Duration can also be combined on the same sufficiently upgraded suit if both modification slots are available.

Engineer Unlock Chain

Hero Ferrari is an independent starting point in the Odyssey Engineer network.

Her branch is:

Hero Ferrari
└── Wellington Beck
    └── Uma Laszlo

Wellington Beck is discovered through Hero Ferrari.[4]

Wellington subsequently leads to Uma Laszlo.[5]

Referring Wellington Beck

After Hero Ferrari has been unlocked, provide her with 5 Settlement Defence Plans to receive the referral to Wellington Beck.[1]

Important

The current requirement is 5 Settlement Defence Plans, not 15.

Older Odyssey guides may still state that Hero requires 15 plans. Frontier reduced the requirement to 5 as part of Update 18.08.[6]

= Obtaining Settlement Defence Plans

Settlement Defence Plans are an Odyssey Data material.[7]

Current material data lists them as obtainable from:

  • Irregular Markers points of interest;
  • data ports in CMD buildings; and
  • mission rewards.[7]

Because Settlement Defence Plans are Data rather than a ship commodity, they do not require cargo-rack capacity.

Tip

Only five plans are now required. Before following an older farming guide built around collecting 15, check whether you already have enough in your Odyssey material storage.

Once the five plans have been provided to Hero, Wellington Beck becomes the next Engineer in this branch.

Increasing Engineer Reputation

Not applicable to Odyssey Engineers in the same way as ship Engineers.

Hero Ferrari does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression found at ship Engineer workshops.

Once Hero has been unlocked, her available suit and weapon modifications are available subject to:

  • having compatible equipment;
  • having an available modification slot; and
  • possessing the required Odyssey materials and credits.

Equipment itself is upgraded separately through Pioneer Supplies.

See Odyssey Engineering for the full distinction between suit/weapon grades and Engineer modifications.

Experimental Effects

Not applicable.

Odyssey suit and handheld-weapon Engineering does not use the separate ship-module Experimental Effect system.

Hero's Faster Handling, Noise Suppressor, Improved Jump Assist, Increased Air Reserves, and Increased Sprint Duration are themselves the modifications applied to the equipment.

See Odyssey Engineering rather than Experimental Effects for on-foot modification mechanics.

Blueprint Pinning

Not applicable to Hero Ferrari's Odyssey modifications.

The conventional ship-Engineering system allows certain blueprints to be pinned for Remote Engineering. Hero's on-foot modifications do not use that blueprint-pinning workflow.

A suit or weapon must be taken to an appropriate Odyssey Engineer to have the desired modification installed.

Field note

This is why Engineer location still matters after an Odyssey Engineer has been unlocked. Unlocking Hero does not create a remotely accessible Faster Handling or Improved Jump Assist blueprint.

Hero offers several useful modifications, but no single configuration is correct for every suit or weapon.

For general use, EDFM would prioritise her modifications roughly by the role of the equipment rather than treating every modification as mandatory.

General-purpose suit

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Improved Jump Assist is Hero's strongest broadly applicable suit modification.

It improves movement in settlements and rough terrain and remains useful during combat, exploration, salvage, and mission-running.

Increased Sprint Duration is another strong mobility choice when the suit is frequently used for settlement work or ground combat.

Increased Air Reserves is more specialised and is usually most valuable when emergency life-support endurance is an intentional part of the build.

Covert weapon

For a weapon intended for stealth-oriented settlement work:

Important

Plan the final purpose of an Odyssey weapon before consuming its modification slots. A modification useful on a covert weapon may provide little value on a weapon built purely for surface conflict zones.

What Hero Cannot Modify

Hero's modification portfolio is limited to five modifications:

  • Faster Handling — weapon
  • Noise Suppressor — weapon
  • Improved Jump Assist — suit
  • Increased Air Reserves — suit
  • Increased Sprint Duration — suit[1]

For other commonly used modifications, other Engineers are required.

Examples include:

See Odyssey Engineer Modifications for the complete Engineer-by-modification matrix.
