Sell a combined total of 15 of the following Odyssey Data items to bartenders:

* Cat Media
* Classic Entertainment
* Multimedia Entertainment

The requirement is 15 total across the three types. You do not need 15 of each.

A valid combination could therefore be:

<pre>
5 Cat Media
+ 4 Classic Entertainment
+ 6 Multimedia Entertainment
= 15 total
</pre>

To unlock Wellington:

# Unlock Hero Ferrari.
# Provide Hero with 5 Settlement Defence Plans to receive Wellington Beck's referral.
# Obtain any combination of Cat Media, Classic Entertainment, and Multimedia Entertainment.
# Sell a combined total of 15 qualifying items to bartenders.

Not applicable to Odyssey Engineers in the same way as ship Engineers.

Wellington Beck does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression found at ship Engineer workshops.

Once he is unlocked, his available modifications can be installed provided that:

* the equipment is compatible;
* the suit or weapon has an unused modification slot; and
* you possess the required Odyssey materials and credits.

The suit or weapon's equipment grade is upgraded separately through Pioneer Supplies.

See Odyssey Engineering for the complete system.

Experimental Effects
Experimental Effects
To be added — not confirmed in the sources checked for this pass.

Increasing Engineer Reputation
Not applicable.
Reputation increases through crafting modifications at their workshop, in line with the general mechanic covered on the main Engineering page.

Odyssey suit and handheld-weapon Engineering does not use the separate ship-module Experimental Effect system.

Wellington's modifications are themselves the permanent upgrades applied to the equipment.

Blueprint Pinning
Blueprint Pinning
Fact: Wellington Beck's confirmed specialty area is Tactical equipment.

EDFM recommendation: Not yet made. A pinning recommendation needs the specific modification and maximum-grade data above filled in first — see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Engineering Architecture for why EDFM treats pinning guidance as editorial judgement, not a database fact.
Not applicable.

Odyssey modifications cannot be pinned for Remote Engineering in the same manner as ship Engineering blueprints.

A compatible suit or weapon must be taken to an Odyssey Engineer who offers the required modification.

Recommended Engineering
Wellington has several modifications that are useful across very different equipment roles.

Maverick Suit
For a suit primarily used for settlement missions, scavenging, and Engineering-material collection:

Improved Battery Capacity is also broadly useful, while Reduced Tool Battery Consumption becomes increasingly valuable on a Maverick build that makes heavy use of the Arc Cutter and Energylink.

Artemis Suit
For exploration-focused use, Improved Battery Capacity is generally the most broadly relevant Wellington modification.

Longer battery life can extend operations away from the SRV or ship and reduce dependence on Energy Cells.

Extra Backpack Capacity has less direct value to an Artemis build whose primary purpose is exobiology rather than settlement looting.

Weapons
For weapons, Wellington's two options are:

Related Engineers
* Greater Range
No related Engineers confirmed for this pass.
* Scope

Related Guides
Both are strongest when the weapon is intentionally configured for longer-distance engagement.
Engineering Engineer Unlock Guide

What Wellington Cannot Modify
Wellington currently provides five modification types:

* Extra Backpack Capacity — suit
* Greater Range — weapon
* Improved Battery Capacity — suit
* Reduced Tool Battery Consumption — suit
* Scope — weapon

Other modifications require different Engineers.

Wellington Beck is an Odyssey Engineer based at Beck Facility in the Jolapa system. He is discovered through Hero Ferrari and specialises in a mixture of suit utility and handheld-weapon modifications.[1]

Wellington provides Extra Backpack Capacity, Greater Range, Improved Battery Capacity, Reduced Tool Battery Consumption, and Scope.[1]

He also forms the middle of the Odyssey Engineer branch:

Hero Ferrari
└── Wellington Beck
    └── Uma Laszlo

Field note

Odyssey Engineering does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation system used by ship Engineers. Suits and weapons have equipment grades and modification slots, while Wellington installs individual modifications into those slots.

Location

Beck Facility is a surface Engineer base on Jolapa 6 a.[2]

The facility has a concourse and the services needed to access Wellington's Engineering workshop.[2]

How to Discover Wellington Beck

Wellington Beck is discovered through Hero Ferrari.[1]

After unlocking Hero, provide her with 5 Settlement Defence Plans to receive Wellington's referral.[3]

Settlement Defence Plans are Odyssey Data and can currently be found at:

Important

The current referral requirement is 5 Settlement Defence Plans.

Older guides may list 15. Frontier reduced Hero Ferrari's requirement to 5 in Update 18.08.[5]

See Hero Ferrari for the complete preceding Engineer unlock.

How to Receive an Invitation

There is no separate invitation requirement after receiving Wellington's referral from Hero Ferrari.

Once Wellington has been discovered, complete his bartender-sales requirement to unlock his workshop.[1]

How to Unlock Wellington Beck

Sell a combined total of 15 of the following Odyssey Data items to bartenders:[1]

The requirement is 15 total across the three types. You do not need 15 of each.

A valid combination could therefore be:

5 Cat Media
+ 4 Classic Entertainment
+ 6 Multimedia Entertainment
= 15 total

To unlock Wellington:

  1. Unlock Hero Ferrari.
  2. Provide Hero with 5 Settlement Defence Plans to receive Wellington Beck's referral.
  3. Obtain any combination of Cat Media, Classic Entertainment, and Multimedia Entertainment.
  4. Sell a combined total of 15 qualifying items to bartenders.
  5. Travel to Beck Facility on Jolapa 6 a.
  6. Access Wellington Beck's Engineer workshop.

Important

15 is the current total requirement.

Frontier reduced Wellington's entertainment-media requirement to 15 total in Update 18.08.[5]

Older Odyssey Engineering guides may still show the previous requirement.

Obtaining the Entertainment Data

All three qualifying unlock items are Odyssey Data, rather than Goods or Assets.

Cat Media

Cat Media can currently be obtained from:

  • data ports in HAB buildings; and
  • mission rewards.[6]

Classic Entertainment

Classic Entertainment can currently be obtained from:

  • data ports in HAB buildings; and
  • mission rewards.[7]

Multimedia Entertainment

Multimedia Entertainment can currently be obtained from:

  • data ports in HAB buildings; and
  • mission rewards.[8]

Tip

You do not need to farm one particular media type. Keep all three while preparing Wellington's unlock, because any combination counts toward the same 15-item total.

Because these are Data items, they do not use the physical Goods inventory carried in the suit backpack.

Field note

Current Engineer data notes that station services may not become available immediately after Wellington is unlocked. If his expected services do not appear after completing the bartender-sales requirement, logging out and back in may make them available.[1]

Odyssey Engineering at Wellington Beck

Odyssey Engineering works differently from ship Engineering.

Suits and handheld weapons have an equipment grade. Higher equipment grades provide additional modification slots, into which Engineers install individual modifications.

Wellington's modifications do not progress from Grade 1 through Grade 5.

Important

A Grade 5 suit or weapon does not receive a "Grade 5 Wellington Beck modification." The equipment grade determines available modification slots; modifications such as Greater Range or Improved Battery Capacity are installed as individual upgrades.

See Odyssey Engineering for suit and weapon grades, modification slots, materials, and Engineering mechanics.

Available Engineering

Wellington currently provides five modification types.[1]

Modification Equipment Primary effect
Extra Backpack Capacity Suit Doubles backpack Data, Component, and Item capacity
Greater Range Handheld weapon Increases effective weapon range by 50%
Improved Battery Capacity Suit Increases suit battery energy capacity by 50%
Reduced Tool Battery Consumption Suit Reduces energy consumption from applicable suit-tool functions
Scope Handheld weapon Adds a scope or improves the weapon's existing optic

Extra Backpack Capacity

Extra Backpack Capacity increases all three sections of the suit's carried-material inventory.[1]

The current modification provides:

  • +100% Data capacity
  • +100% Component capacity
  • +100% Item capacity[1]

The current recipe is:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Extra Backpack Capacity is one of Wellington's most broadly useful modifications for a Maverick Suit used for settlement scavenging and Engineering-material collection.

Doubling the suit's carried inventory reduces how often you need to return to a ship, SRV, or station while looting settlements.

Other Engineers currently providing Extra Backpack Capacity include:

Greater Range

Greater Range increases the effective range of a handheld weapon by 50%.[1]

The exact Engineering recipe depends on the weapon manufacturer.

Kinematic Armaments weapons

The current recipe is:

Manticore weapons

The current recipe is:

Takada weapons

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Greater Range include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Greater Range is most valuable on weapons whose normal effective range limits how you use them.

It is useful for outdoor settlement combat and engagements where maintaining distance is preferable to pushing into a weapon's normal falloff range.

Improved Battery Capacity

Improved Battery Capacity increases suit battery capacity by 50%.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Improved Battery Capacity include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Improved Battery Capacity is one of Wellington's strongest general-purpose suit modifications.

Additional suit energy benefits extended settlement operations, exploration, salvage, infiltration, and other activities where repeated Energy Cell use would otherwise be necessary.

It pairs particularly well with energy-intensive suit use and can reduce the frequency with which environmental charging points or Energy Cells are needed.

Reduced Tool Battery Consumption

Reduced Tool Battery Consumption reduces the suit energy consumed by applicable tool functions.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Reduced Tool Battery Consumption include:

Tip

Reduced Tool Battery Consumption is particularly useful on a Maverick Suit used heavily for cutting, charging, overloading, and other tool-based settlement activities.

For a suit whose tools see little use, another modification may provide more value from the limited modification slots.

Scope

Scope adds a magnified optic to a compatible handheld weapon or improves its existing sight.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Scope include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Scope is most useful on a weapon intended for deliberate medium- or longer-range fire.

It pairs naturally with Greater Range where both modifications suit the weapon's intended role, but spending two modification slots on range-oriented upgrades should be planned before modifying the weapon.

Engineer Unlock Chain

Wellington Beck belongs to the Hero Ferrari branch of the Odyssey Engineer network.

The branch is:

Hero Ferrari
└── Wellington Beck
    └── Uma Laszlo

Hero refers Commanders to Wellington after receiving 5 Settlement Defence Plans.[3]

Wellington then refers Commanders to Uma Laszlo.[9]

Referring Uma Laszlo

After Wellington Beck has been unlocked, provide him with 5 Insight Entertainment Suites to receive the referral to Uma Laszlo.[1]

Insight Entertainment Suites are Odyssey Goods, rather than Data.[10]

Current material data lists them as obtainable from settlements.[10]

Important

Do not confuse Wellington's two entertainment-related requirements:

  • Unlock Wellington: sell a combined total of 15 Cat Media, Classic Entertainment, and Multimedia Entertainment to bartenders.
  • Discover Uma Laszlo: provide 5 Insight Entertainment Suites to Wellington.

The first group consists of Data. Insight Entertainment Suites are Goods.

Tip

Once Wellington has been unlocked, keep any Insight Entertainment Suites you find until you have the five needed for Uma's referral rather than selling or trading them away.

See Insight Entertainment Suite for acquisition details.

Increasing Engineer Reputation

Not applicable to Odyssey Engineers in the same way as ship Engineers.

Wellington Beck does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression found at ship Engineer workshops.

Once he is unlocked, his available modifications can be installed provided that:

  • the equipment is compatible;
  • the suit or weapon has an unused modification slot; and
  • you possess the required Odyssey materials and credits.

The suit or weapon's equipment grade is upgraded separately through Pioneer Supplies.

See Odyssey Engineering for the complete system.

Experimental Effects

Not applicable.

Odyssey suit and handheld-weapon Engineering does not use the separate ship-module Experimental Effect system.

Wellington's modifications are themselves the permanent upgrades applied to the equipment.

Blueprint Pinning

Not applicable.

Odyssey modifications cannot be pinned for Remote Engineering in the same manner as ship Engineering blueprints.

A compatible suit or weapon must be taken to an Odyssey Engineer who offers the required modification.

Field note

Unlocking Wellington therefore does not make Greater Range, Scope, or Improved Battery Capacity remotely available from another station.

Wellington has several modifications that are useful across very different equipment roles.

Maverick Suit

For a suit primarily used for settlement missions, scavenging, and Engineering-material collection:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Extra Backpack Capacity is one of the strongest choices available from Wellington for a general-purpose Maverick Suit.

Doubling carried Data, Component, and Item capacity directly improves settlement-looting efficiency and reduces trips back to storage.

Both are strongest when the weapon is intentionally configured for longer-distance engagement.

Important

Odyssey weapon modification slots are permanent and limited. Decide whether a weapon is actually intended for ranged use before committing both Greater Range and Scope to the same weapon.

What Wellington Cannot Modify

Wellington currently provides five modification types:

  • Extra Backpack Capacity — suit
  • Greater Range — weapon
  • Improved Battery Capacity — suit
  • Reduced Tool Battery Consumption — suit
  • Scope — weapon[1]

Other modifications require different Engineers.

Examples include:
