Redesign as a compact maintenance banner (RuneScape Wiki-style notice as UX reference only, EDFM's own colours/type): icon + bare status word + one standard sentence + concise Uncertain: line always visible; mode/version/reviewer/source quality/full uncertainty move into the existing View verification details collapsible. Draft moved from the attention to the neutral colour tier. No parameter changes -- pure rendering revision.
Add optional noindex= passthrough to {{SEO}}, so marking a placeholder doesn't need a separate template call

Usage

Place at the top of any gameplay-facing article. Status must be text, not colour alone — see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Verification Policy.

Compact maintenance-banner form (2026-08-08 second revision): the always-visible state is now a short banner — a status icon, the status word itself (no mode/version appended to it), one standard sentence for that status, and a concise "Uncertain: ..." line only when |uncertainty= is actually supplied. Everything else (Reviewer, Game mode, Version coverage, Source quality, the full Known uncertainty text again for the record, and the optional Legacy differences/Recent changes/Verification notes fields) sits behind the same native mw-collapsible "View verification details" toggle as before (still core MediaWiki, still no new dependency). No parameters were removed or renamed from the previous revision — this is a rendering change only, so every existing call site upgrades automatically.

{{Article status
 |status=Verified|Partially verified|Needs review|Draft|Historical|Legacy only|Upcoming
 |mode=Live|Legacy|Both|Historical
 |version=
 |reviewed=
 |reviewer=
 |source_quality=
 |uncertainty=
 |legacy_differences= (optional)
 |recent_changes= (optional)
 |notes= (optional — extra verification detail beyond the standard fields)
}}

Keep uncertainty genuinely concise (a short list of what's uncertain, e.g. "discovery, invitation, and complete blueprint availability") — it now renders directly in the banner, not just inside the details panel, so a long paragraph there defeats the point. If a claim needs a longer explanation, put that explanation in the article body (near the claim itself, using {{Unverified claim}}/{{[[Template:Estimated information|Estimated information]]}}/{{Community observation}} or a plain .edfm-inline-flag note) rather than in this template.

Status tiers (left accent + icon colour, from Template:EDFM style/styles.css): positive (cyan, restrained — Verified, Partially verified), attention (orange — Needs review, Upcoming), neutral (dim — Draft, Historical, Legacy only). Draft moved from the attention tier to the neutral tier in this revision: an in-progress article isn't a verification concern in the same way an unchecked or announced-but-unreleased one is.

|legacy_differences=, |recent_changes=, and |notes= are optional — omit them and nothing renders, same pattern as every other optional field here. Use legacy_differences when a fact on this article genuinely differs between Live and Legacy (routine, can apply at any status); reserve status=Legacy only itself for articles that are entirely about a Legacy-exclusive mechanic with no Live counterpart at all — see Elite Dangerous Field Manual:Verification Policy for the full distinction. status=Upcoming and status=Legacy only populate their own maintenance categories (Category:Upcoming Content, Category:Legacy-Only Content).
