One of the galaxy's three player-facing superpowers, and the allegiance behind Hera Tani's Imperial Navy rank requirement.
The Empire is one of the three major player-facing superpowers in Elite Dangerous, alongside the Federation and the Alliance. It is an aristocratic, feudal-style government tracing its roots to Achenar, currently led by Empress Arissa Lavigny-Duval, the 16th Emperor of the Empire.[1]
Why it matters for Engineering
Some Engineers gate their invitation requirement behind reputation or rank with a specific superpower rather than an activity or another Engineer's referral. Hera Tani is one of these: her invitation requires reaching Imperial Navy rank Outsider or higher — the first earned rank in Empire naval progression — rather than a generic reputation score with an arbitrary faction.
Imperial Navy rank is distinct from ordinary reputation with an individual Empire-aligned minor faction; it is earned through service to the Empire itself and tracked separately.
