Colonel Bris Dekker is a ship Engineer based at Dekker's Yard in the permit-locked Sol system. She is reached through Juri Ishmaak and specialises primarily in Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineering.[1]

Bris provides Grade 4 Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineering and Grade 3 Frame Shift Drive Engineering.[1]

Field note

Bris is the highest-grade Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineer available in the Bubble. Mel Brandon can take the same conventional Interdictor blueprints to Grade 5, but is located in the Colonia region.[2]

Location

Dekker's Yard is a surface Engineer base on Iapetus, approximately 4,700 Ls from Sol's arrival point.[3]

Sol is a permit-locked Federation system.[4]

Important

Receiving Juri Ishmaak's referral does not grant access to Sol. You must obtain the Sol Permit separately before you can reach Dekker's Yard.

How to Discover Colonel Bris Dekker

Colonel Bris Dekker is discovered through Juri Ishmaak.

Reach Grade 3 access and progress at least one-third of the way toward Grade 4 with Juri to receive his referral to Bris.[5]

Juri can also refer Commanders to The Sarge. Bris and The Sarge are therefore parallel referrals rather than one being required for the other.

Field note

Receiving Juri's referral makes Bris known to you. You must still satisfy her Federation-reputation requirement and be able to enter Sol.

How to Receive an Invitation

Reach at least Friendly reputation with the Federation.[1]

Federation reputation is your superpower-level standing with the Federation and is distinct from:

  • reputation with an individual Federation-aligned minor faction; and
  • your Federal Navy Rank.

Activities completed for Federation-aligned minor factions can contribute toward Federation reputation.

See Federation Reputation for how superpower reputation works and how to check your current standing.

Sol permit

Bris is physically located inside Sol, so you must also possess the Sol Permit before you can reach her workshop.

The Sol permit is awarded through Federal Navy Rank progression at Petty Officer.[5]

Important

Friendly Federation reputation and the Sol permit are separate requirements. Bris's meeting requirement is Friendly Federation reputation, while physical access to her workshop requires the permit obtained through Federal Navy progression.

See Sol Permit and Federal Navy Rank for the complete progression route.

How to Unlock Colonel Bris Dekker

Unlock requirements summary:

  • Reach Grade 3 access and at least one-third progress toward Grade 4 with Juri Ishmaak.
  • Reach at least Friendly reputation with the Federation.
  • Obtain the Sol Permit by reaching Petty Officer or higher in Federal Navy Rank.
  • Accumulate enough Federal combat bonds for Bris's unlock requirement.
  • Provide the required value of Federal combat bonds.

Important

Bris is one of the Engineer unlocks with a genuinely variable requirement. EDFM therefore does not present either 1 million or 10 million credits as a universal value.

Tip

If you want to avoid making another Combat Zone trip after reaching Sol, accumulating at least 10,000,000 CR worth of qualifying Federal combat bonds beforehand covers the higher currently documented requirement.

For the complete step-by-step process, see Unlocking Colonel Bris Dekker.

Increasing Engineer Reputation

Reputation with Colonel Bris Dekker can be increased by:

  • crafting Engineering modifications at Dekker's Yard; or
  • handing in bounty vouchers at Dekker's Yard.[1]

Higher Engineer reputation gives access to the higher grades Bris supports for each blueprint.

Bris does not currently provide a referral to another Engineer.

See Engineer Reputation for how ship Engineer reputation, grade access, blueprint progression, referrals, and alternative reputation methods work.

Field note

Bris's current reputation method lists bounty vouchers. This is separate from the Federal combat bonds required for her initial unlock.[1]

Engineer Unlock Chain

Colonel Bris Dekker belongs to the Felicity Farseer branch of the ship Engineer network.

The route to Bris is:

Felicity Farseer
└── Juri Ishmaak
    └── Colonel Bris Dekker

Juri also provides a referral to The Sarge:

Felicity Farseer
└── Juri Ishmaak
    ├── Colonel Bris Dekker
    └── The Sarge

Colonel Bris Dekker does not currently lead to another Engineer in the active ship Engineer referral network.[2]

Field note

Bris and The Sarge are parallel referrals from Juri Ishmaak. Unlocking either one is not required before unlocking the other.

See Engineer Unlock Guide for the complete referral network.

Available Engineering

Bris's current Engineering coverage is narrow but specialised.[1]

Module Available blueprints Maximum grade
Frame Shift Drive Interdictor
  • Expanded Capture Arc
  • Long Range
Grade 4
Frame Shift Drive
  • Faster Boot Sequence
  • Increased Range
  • Shielded
Grade 3

Bris is therefore primarily a Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineer. Her Frame Shift Drive capability is useful for intermediate Engineering and applying Experimental Effects, but stops below Grade 5.

Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineering

Bris provides both conventional Frame Shift Drive Interdictor blueprints through Grade 4.[1]

Expanded Capture Arc

Expanded Capture Arc increases the angular area in which an interdiction can be initiated, making it easier to acquire a target that is not directly centred ahead of the ship.

At Grade 4, the current blueprint provides:

  • +100% facing limit
  • -25% range
  • +40% power draw[6]

Tip

Expanded Capture Arc is useful when ease of acquiring the interdiction is more important than maximum initiation distance.

Long Range

Long Range increases the distance from which an interdiction can be initiated, but requires more accurate alignment with the target.

At Grade 4, the current blueprint provides:

  • +50% range
  • -25% facing limit
  • +40% power draw
  • +25% mass[7]

Tip

Long Range is useful when initiating interdictions from farther away matters more than having a wider capture angle.

Neither Frame Shift Drive Interdictor blueprint currently supports Experimental Effects.[6][7]

Experimental Effects

Experimental Effects are separate from the main Engineering blueprint.

The Frame Shift Drive supports Experimental Effects.

The Frame Shift Drive Interdictor does not currently have Experimental Effects.[6][7]

Frame Shift Drive

Available Frame Shift Drive Experimental Effects include:[8]

Field note

Bris can apply a compatible Frame Shift Drive Experimental Effect even to an FSD that has already been engineered to Grade 5 by another Engineer. Her Grade 3 blueprint limit does not prevent her from applying the Experimental Effect.

See Experimental Effects for the effects, tradeoffs, and material costs of each option.

Important

Experimental Effects cannot be applied through ordinary Remote Engineering. The Frame Shift Drive must be taken to an Engineer who works on that module.

Bris's main reason for existing in an Engineering progression is the Frame Shift Drive Interdictor.

There is no single universally superior Interdictor blueprint because the two available modifications solve opposite problems.

Expanded Capture Arc

Tip

EDFM recommendation for general interdiction use: Expanded Capture Arc

For many ships, Expanded Capture Arc is the easier general-purpose choice because it widens the area in which an interdiction can be initiated.

This gives the pilot more tolerance when positioning behind a manoeuvring target.

The tradeoff is reduced initiation range.

Long Range

Long Range is more appropriate when interdictions need to begin from farther away and the pilot is comfortable maintaining tighter alignment with the target.

This can be useful for:

  • bounty hunting;
  • piracy;
  • Powerplay activity; and
  • other roles where quickly reaching a target's interdiction range is important.

The narrower capture angle means it is not simply a direct upgrade over Expanded Capture Arc.

Blueprint Pinning

After earning sufficient reputation with Bris, one of her blueprints can be pinned for use through Remote Engineering.

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Expanded Capture Arc is a practical blueprint to consider pinning at Bris if you regularly use Frame Shift Drive Interdictors.

Bris provides the blueprint through Grade 4, the highest grade available from a Bubble Engineer.

If your interdiction ships are instead built around engaging targets from greater distance, Long Range Frame Shift Drive Interdictor is the better pin.

Bris's Frame Shift Drive blueprints are generally poor candidates for her pin because they stop at Grade 3 while Felicity Farseer, Elvira Martuuk, and Mel Brandon provide them through Grade 5.[2]

Important

Frame Shift Drive Interdictors currently have no Experimental Effects, so their main blueprint can be completed entirely through Remote Engineering once the appropriate blueprint is pinned and Engineer reputation is sufficient.

What Bris Cannot Fully Engineer

Bris has only two module specialties:

  • Frame Shift Drive Interdictor: Grade 4
  • Frame Shift Drive: Grade 3[1]

For Grade 5 Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineering:

  • Mel Brandon provides Grade 5 Expanded Capture Arc and Grade 5 Long Range Engineering in Colonia.[6][7]

Other Interdictor Engineers include:

For Grade 5 Frame Shift Drive Engineering:

Professor Palin and Chloe Sedesi provide Frame Shift Drive Engineering through Grade 3.

Bris is therefore most valuable for Grade 4 Frame Shift Drive Interdictor Engineering in the Bubble, rather than for engineering the ship's main Frame Shift Drive.

What Next?

Colonel Bris Dekker is the end of her Engineer referral branch and does not currently introduce another Engineer.

The parallel branch from Juri Ishmaak leads to The Sarge.
