Yarden Bond is an Odyssey Engineer based at Salamander Bank in the Bayan system. She is discovered through Kit Fowler and specialises in stealth, mobility, and weapon-handling modifications.[1]

Yarden provides Audio Masking, Combat Movement Speed, Faster Handling, Improved Hip Fire Accuracy, Improved Jump Assist, and Quieter Footsteps.[1]

Field note

Yarden is particularly important for stealth-focused equipment in the Bubble. Audio Masking and Quieter Footsteps are otherwise available from Yi Shen in the Colonia region.[1]

Field note

Odyssey Engineering does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression used by ship Engineers. Suits and weapons have equipment grades and modification slots; Yarden installs individual modifications into those slots.

Location

  • System: Bayan
  • Settlement: Salamander Bank
  • Body: Bayan 7 b
  • Distance from arrival: approximately 722 Ls
  • Engineer type: Odyssey Engineer
  • Prerequisite Engineer: Kit Fowler
  • System permit required: No

Salamander Bank is a surface Engineer base on Bayan 7 b.[2]

The base currently provides a full Odyssey concourse alongside ship services, including a bartender, Frontline Solutions, Pioneer Supplies, and Yarden's Engineer workshop.[2]

How to Discover Yarden Bond

Yarden Bond is discovered through Kit Fowler.[1]

After unlocking Kit, provide him with 5 Surveillance Equipment to receive the referral to Yarden.[3]

Surveillance Equipment is physical Odyssey Goods.[4]

Current material data lists it as obtainable from:

  • STO buildings
  • EXT buildings
  • CMD buildings
  • mission rewards[4]

Important

Surveillance Equipment is given to Kit Fowler to obtain Yarden's referral. It is not Yarden's own unlock material.

Surveillance Equipment is also used for Night Vision Engineering, so it can be worth collecting more than the amount required for the referral.[4]

See Kit Fowler for the complete preceding Engineer progression.

How to Receive an Invitation

There is no separate invitation requirement after Kit Fowler has referred Yarden.

Once Yarden becomes known, complete her bartender-sales requirement to unlock her workshop.[1]

How to Unlock Yarden Bond

Unlock requirements summary:

{{Important|The current requirement is 5 Smear Campaign Plans. Frontier reduced Yarden's requirement from 8 to 5 in Update 18.08.

Tip

Wait until Yarden has been discovered through Kit before selling the required Data so the Engineer progression is already active.

For the complete step-by-step process, see Unlocking Yarden Bond.

Obtaining Smear Campaign Plans

Smear Campaign Plans are Odyssey Data.[5]

Current material data lists them as obtainable from:

  • data ports in HAB buildings;
  • data ports in CMD buildings; and
  • mission rewards.[5]

Because Smear Campaign Plans are Data, they do not occupy the physical Goods section of the suit backpack.

They currently have no known suit or weapon modification recipe and are used for Engineer progression.[5]

Tip

HAB and CMD data ports contain large possible Data pools, so a single settlement visit is not guaranteed to provide a Smear Campaign Plan. Check mission rewards as well rather than relying entirely on random settlement downloads.

Odyssey Engineering at Yarden Bond

Odyssey Engineering works differently from ship Engineering.

Suits and handheld weapons have an equipment grade. Higher equipment grades provide additional modification slots:

Equipment grade Modification slots
Grade 1 0
Grade 2 1
Grade 3 2
Grade 4 3
Grade 5 4

Yarden installs individual modifications into those available slots.

Her modifications do not progress through Grade 1–5 Engineer reputation.

Important

A Grade 5 Maverick Suit does not receive a "Grade 5 Quieter Footsteps" modification. Grade 5 describes the suit itself and provides four modification slots; Quieter Footsteps occupies one of those slots as a single permanent modification.

See Odyssey Engineering for equipment grades, modification slots, upgrading, and Engineering-material mechanics.

Available Engineering

Yarden currently provides six Odyssey modifications.[1]

Modification Equipment Primary effect
Audio Masking Handheld weapon Reduces the weapon's simulated sound in unpressurised environments
Combat Movement Speed Suit Removes the movement penalty while aiming down sights
Faster Handling Handheld weapon Improves weapon draw, stow, and aiming handling
Improved Hip Fire Accuracy Handheld weapon Improves hip-fire accuracy by 45%
Improved Jump Assist Suit Extends Jump Assist thrust duration
Quieter Footsteps Suit Reduces the audible range of footsteps by 50%

Audio Masking

Audio Masking reduces the simulated sound signature produced by a weapon when fired in an unpressurised environment.[1]

The current recipe is:

Only two current Odyssey Engineers provide Audio Masking:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Audio Masking is one of Yarden's most important modifications for covert weapons.

It is designed for stealth operations in unpressurised environments, including settlement exteriors and depressurised interiors.

Audio Masking vs Noise Suppressor

Odyssey uses two separate firearm-sound modifications:

  • Audio Masking — suppresses the weapon's simulated sound in unpressurised environments.
  • Noise Suppressor — reduces weapon sound in pressurised environments.

The two are therefore complementary rather than interchangeable.

Important

A weapon fitted only with Noise Suppressor does not gain the same stealth benefit outdoors on an airless world. Likewise, Audio Masking is not the modification intended to suppress gunfire inside a normally pressurised settlement interior.

For a weapon intended to be used covertly both inside and outside settlement buildings, installing both can provide the broadest environmental coverage if the weapon's limited modification slots allow it.

Tip

A dedicated covert sidearm or precision weapon is a stronger candidate for Audio Masking than a firearm used almost exclusively in Surface Conflict Zones, where remaining undetected is generally not the objective.

Combat Movement Speed

Combat Movement Speed removes the movement-speed penalty normally imposed while aiming down sights.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Combat Movement Speed include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Combat Movement Speed is a strong modification for a Dominator Suit or any suit regularly used for armed settlement work.

It allows the Commander to retain normal movement while aiming, improving the ability to strafe, track targets, and reposition without giving up aimed fire.

It is particularly useful for weapons whose normal use involves remaining in ADS for significant portions of an engagement.

For a suit used primarily for non-combat activity, other mobility or utility modifications may provide more frequent value.

Faster Handling

Faster Handling improves the speed and responsiveness of drawing, stowing, and handling a handheld weapon.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Faster Handling include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Faster Handling is especially useful on loadouts that switch between weapons frequently.

Odyssey combat often rewards using different damage types against shields and unshielded targets, so reducing weapon-switching delay can improve the responsiveness of a two-weapon loadout.

Faster Handling can also be useful on a covert weapon that needs to be drawn and stowed quickly while moving through a settlement.

It should not be treated as mandatory for every firearm; a weapon that remains equipped for most of an engagement may gain more value from another modification.

Improved Hip Fire Accuracy

Improved Hip Fire Accuracy reduces weapon sway and improves accuracy when firing without aiming down sights.[1]

The current modifier is:

  • +45% hip-fire accuracy[1]

The required materials depend on the weapon manufacturer.

Kinematic Armaments weapons

The current recipe is:

Manticore weapons

The current recipe is:

Takada weapons

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Improved Hip Fire Accuracy include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Improved Hip Fire Accuracy is most useful on weapons intended for close- or medium-range fighting where firing quickly without entering ADS is common.

A weapon primarily used for deliberate aimed shots at longer distance will normally gain less from this modification.

Hip Fire Accuracy vs Combat Movement Speed

These two Yarden modifications affect different combat styles:

  • Improved Hip Fire Accuracy improves firing while not aiming down sights.
  • Combat Movement Speed improves mobility while aiming down sights.

The better choice therefore depends on how the weapon and suit are actually used.

Field note

Combat Movement Speed is installed on the suit, while Improved Hip Fire Accuracy is installed on the weapon. A build can therefore use both without consuming two weapon modification slots.

Improved Jump Assist

Improved Jump Assist extends the thrust duration of the suit's Jump Assist system.[1]

The current recipe is:

Other Engineers currently providing Improved Jump Assist include:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Improved Jump Assist is one of the most broadly useful mobility modifications available for on-foot activity.

It makes it easier to reach roofs, cross settlement structures, climb difficult terrain, and reposition vertically during combat or infiltration.

Its value extends across several suit roles:

  • Maverick Suit — settlement access and salvage
  • Dominator Suit — vertical combat movement
  • Artemis Suit — planetary terrain traversal

The practical effect also varies with local gravity, so the same modified suit can feel substantially different on different planetary bodies.

Field note

Current Inara data clearly describes the modification as extending Jump Assist thrust duration, but its displayed numerical fields do not provide a useful positive percentage for that effect. EDFM therefore describes the verified function without assigning an unsupported numeric increase.[1]

Quieter Footsteps

Quieter Footsteps reduces the distance from which NPCs can hear the Commander's footsteps.[1]

The current modifier is:

  • -50% footstep audible range[1]

The current recipe is:

Only two current Odyssey Engineers provide Quieter Footsteps:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Quieter Footsteps is one of Yarden's strongest modifications for a dedicated stealth Maverick Suit.

Reducing footstep detection range makes movement around occupied settlements more forgiving when attempting to remain unnoticed.

It is particularly useful during:

  • covert theft and heist missions;
  • settlement infiltration;
  • illegal salvage;
  • assassination operations;
  • access-profile cloning; and
  • movement through restricted settlement areas.

Quieter Footsteps and crouching

Quieter Footsteps reduces the audible range generated by movement. It does not eliminate the need to control movement around nearby NPCs.

Use the modification as an additional stealth tool rather than assuming the Commander becomes inaudible.

Combining Yarden's stealth modifications

Yarden can provide both sides of a strong covert-equipment setup:

  • Quieter Footsteps — reduces the sound generated by the suit's movement.
  • Audio Masking — reduces the sound signature of a weapon in unpressurised environments.

A separate Engineer offering Noise Suppressor can then modify a suitable weapon for pressurised interiors.

Tip

A stealth-oriented Maverick paired with an appropriately suppressed weapon can therefore address both movement noise and weapon noise, rather than relying on only one part of the detection system.

Engineer Unlock Chain

Yarden Bond belongs to the Domino Green branch of the Odyssey Engineer network.

The complete branch is:

Domino Green
└── Kit Fowler
    └── Yarden Bond

The progression is:

  1. Unlock Domino Green.
  2. Provide Domino with Push to discover Kit Fowler.
  3. Complete Kit Fowler's unlock requirement.
  4. Provide Kit with 5 Surveillance Equipment to discover Yarden Bond.
  5. Complete Yarden Bond's bartender-sales requirement.[3][1]

Yarden Bond does not currently refer the Commander to another Odyssey Engineer.[1]

She is therefore the endpoint of this branch.

Increasing Engineer Reputation

Not applicable to Odyssey Engineers in the same way as ship Engineers.

Yarden Bond does not use the Grade 1–5 Engineer-reputation progression found at ship Engineer workshops.

Once Yarden has been unlocked, her modifications can be installed provided that:

  • the equipment is compatible;
  • the suit or weapon has an unused modification slot; and
  • you possess the required Odyssey materials and credits.

The suit or weapon itself is upgraded separately through Pioneer Supplies.

Yarden has no onward Engineer referral requirement.

See Odyssey Engineering for the complete on-foot Engineering system.

Experimental Effects

Not applicable.

Odyssey suit and handheld-weapon Engineering does not use the separate ship-module Experimental Effects system.

Yarden's modifications are themselves the permanent modifications installed onto the equipment.

Blueprint Pinning

Not applicable.

Odyssey modifications cannot be pinned for Remote Engineering in the same manner as ship Engineering blueprints.

A suit or weapon must be taken directly to Yarden Bond or another Odyssey Engineer offering the desired modification.

Field note

Unlocking Yarden therefore does not make Audio Masking, Quieter Footsteps, Improved Jump Assist, or her other modifications remotely available through Pioneer Supplies or another station.

Yarden's portfolio divides naturally into stealth, mobility, and weapon handling.

= Stealth Maverick Suit

For a Maverick Suit intended primarily for covert settlement operations:

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Quieter Footsteps is Yarden's standout suit modification for a dedicated stealth build.

Its 50% reduction in footstep audible range directly supports infiltration and is only available in the Bubble from Yarden.

A stealth-focused Maverick can combine Quieter Footsteps with modifications from other Engineers such as:

The exact combination depends on whether the suit is intended primarily for infiltration, theft, salvage, or general settlement work.

= Covert weapon

Tip

EDFM recommendation: Audio Masking is Yarden's standout weapon modification for operations in unpressurised environments.

It is particularly useful for a dedicated stealth weapon used outdoors or inside depressurised structures.

For a weapon expected to operate both inside pressurised buildings and outside them, consider pairing:

  • Audio Masking — unpressurised environments
  • Noise Suppressor — pressurised environments

This uses two modification slots, so it is most appropriate for a weapon deliberately built around covert use.

= General mobility

Improved Jump Assist is Yarden's most broadly useful general-purpose suit modification.

It benefits:

  • settlement movement;
  • rough-terrain traversal;
  • combat repositioning;
  • rooftop access;
  • salvage; and
  • exploration.

Tip

For a Commander who has no interest in stealth, Improved Jump Assist may provide more everyday value than Quieter Footsteps.

= Combat suit

For a Dominator Suit, Combat Movement Speed can provide a direct combat benefit by removing the movement penalty while aiming.

This is most useful for an ADS-heavy playstyle.

Yarden's other suit choices are generally more mobility- or stealth-oriented than defensive; protection-focused Dominator builds will normally obtain modifications such as Damage Resistance, Faster Shield Regen, or Extra Ammo Capacity from other Engineers.

= Combat weapons

Yarden offers two general handling modifications:

Use Faster Handling when weapon switching and responsiveness are important.

Use Improved Hip Fire Accuracy when a weapon is deliberately fired from the hip frequently.

Neither should be installed automatically without considering the weapon's intended use.

What Yarden Cannot Modify

Yarden currently provides six modification types:

  • Audio Masking — weapon
  • Combat Movement Speed — suit
  • Faster Handling — weapon
  • Improved Hip Fire Accuracy — weapon
  • Improved Jump Assist — suit
  • Quieter Footsteps — suit[1]

Other commonly useful modifications require different Engineers.

Examples include:

See Odyssey Engineer Modifications for the complete Engineer-by-modification matrix.

What Next?

Yarden Bond is the endpoint of the Domino Green Odyssey Engineer branch and does not currently introduce another Engineer.

After unlocking Yarden, further Odyssey Engineering progression requires working through another Bubble branch or travelling to the Colonia Odyssey Engineers.
