Surface deposit mining removes visible deposits from an asteroid with an abrasion blaster.
Surface deposit mining is the use of an Abrasion Blaster to break visible deposits from an asteroid. It often appears as the collection stage after core mining, but the technique is distinct from normal laser mining because it targets named deposits rather than ordinary laser fragments.
When to use surface deposit mining
Surface deposit mining is used when a deposit is visible and targetable on the asteroid surface. The most common teaching context is core mining: after a successful detonation, the cracked asteroid exposes deposits that must be broken free before collectors can recover them.
It can also appear as a targeted deposit task. In either case, the commander should treat the abrasion blaster as a precision extraction tool, not as a general mining laser.
Equipment
A surface-deposit setup needs:
- Abrasion Blaster — dislodges the visible deposit.
- Collector Limpet Controller — retrieves the released material.
- Refinery, cargo space, and limpets.
- Prospector Limpet Controller — helps identify asteroid contents.
- Pulse Wave Analyser — useful when searching for core-style targets that may expose deposits.
