Deploys limpets that analyse an asteroid's mineral content before mining it.
The Prospector Limpet Controller launches limpets that scan an asteroid and reveal its mineral composition, deposit information, and yield potential before a Commander commits to mining it.
Overview
Prospector limpets are one of the original Limpet Controller types and are considered essential for efficient mining: without one, a Commander is mining asteroids blind, with no way to tell a rich deposit from a low-value one before spending time and ammunition on it. A Prospector scan is normally paired with a Collector Limpet Controller to retrieve whatever the mining process breaks loose.
Mining role
Prospecting supports multiple methods:
- Laser Mining — choose asteroids worth spending laser time on.
- Core Mining — confirm contents before committing seismic charges.
- Sub-surface Mining — identify sub-surface deposits before using displacement missiles.
- Surface Deposit Mining — helps evaluate whether visible deposits are useful for the run.
Carry limpets in cargo. The controller provides the launch capability; limpets are the ammunition.
